Can you still get the chicken poxes even though you got the chicken pox vaccine? I thought my daughter got bit by some mosquitoes(sp?) during the night. Now they all over her upper torso. She doesn't have a fever or anyhting she just has spots. I just found out from my daughter that a kid in her class that she plays with had them last week. No one at school said anything about that. Really upset about that wish someone said something. I thought that they were required to send a note home or something. Doctors office is closed so I will have to call tomorrow morning.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I took her to the doctor this morning and she doesn't have the chicken poxes. Thank goodness. (sigh of relief) She did get bitten by a bug and now she is having allergic reation to what ever bite her. So her body is breaking out in a reaction to what ever bite her. We have to put a cream on her twice a day. Other than that she is fine a typical 5 yr old.

Yes. My daughter had the vaccine when it came out when she was around 2. At age 11, in 5th grade she had some spots in March. It was after a vacation and I freaked out thinking it was bed bugs from the hotel or something. I was cleaning everything in clorox around here.

The school nurse called me after she had been to school for 2 days and chicken pox was confirmed by her doctor as well. The case was not a bad one. I was very surprised and embarrassed because I exposed the whole school.

I understand you now have to get a booster shot for the chicken pox.

I've had all 3 incidents. My olest had two mild cases of the chicken pox when we was round 2 and this was before the vaccination existed. My 11 year old was vaccinated. When my daughter was 3 months old (now 2 1/2) and before she got the vaccination, my oldest came down with the chicken pox AGAIN and my 11 year old and 3 month old followed suit. None of them had it severely, mostly a lot of spots that started on their torso. They went away in about a week. But if your daughter is very young like my 3 month old, they insist on seeing her to make sure that it is chicken pox.

Yes you can still get them, but they usually are not as severe. Take her to the doctor to make sure it's not something else.

yes my daughters got the pox after shots; they said it was a much lesser version, and it was much less than the real thing, but they did have the pox.

Dear E.,

Yes, you can get chicken pox after you've been vacinated. My daughter got the chicken pox from my husband's shingles. She had had her vaccine already. The doc said that she may have had a lighter case of them since she had the vaccine but that is only a theory. My boys neither one got them. Its really up to the person's immune system I think.

And there's theories out there that vaccines don't even work. So who knows...... But I do know that you can get chicken pox after a vaccine.

Hope this helps!
