We are going to Port A next week. I want to know if I should grocery shop before I go or shop there. I have heard its very expensive to buy groceries there. True???? And should I buy beach toys here or there (sand buckets & shovels, boogey boards)?
Thanks. EH

What can I do next?

We stopped in Corpus at a Walmart and bought our groceries. We went to the first Walmart we saw and it was old and really gross. There was another one down the highway a bit that looked newer and cleaner. We took our beach toys and bought our boogie boards at a shop in port A. Have fun!!

If I have room, I like to buy non perishable items before I get to any vacation spot. Not just the prices, but can't always find the things you need. Also, I don't want to spend any more of my vacation time than necessary shopping for groceries. I make a list of the perishable items that I need to buy once I get there, so I don't forget anything. I have on occasion even bought my perishables ahead of time, if it is not too long of a drive. Take a good ice chest and buy about $10 worth of dry ice. It will keep things cold for at least 8 hours and even keep some things frozen if you put it right on top of them. I think you will find much better prices in Corpus than Port A.

If you have room, I would go ahead and bring some of the staples.... especially the beach toys!

Have fun!

There is a HEB right before you get to the ferry. It has all of the HEB prices. That is where get our groceries.

Either take your food or shop in Corpus Christie. We waited and bought food at the grocery in PortA and it was WAY EXPENSIVE! We also took buckets and stuff from home in a big plastic zip up bag that was originally on a comforter, it was great at keeping the sand out of the car.

Have fun!

You can buy anything you need there. I can't remember if there is a fully stocked Kroger or Tom Thumb, but the island has plenty of residents that all have to buy groceries somewhere. There are many beach shops that have plenty of cheap beach toys too.
