Pooping in the Tub... - Orem,UT

The past 4-5 times my 18 month has taken a bath...he has a bowel movement. It's starting to get annoying! The first time, I figured, well, this is gross...but...welcome to motherhood. The 2nd and 3rd time...I thought...this is really gross. Now I'm beginning to wonder if this is going to be a regular thing?? I thought I was a seasoned veteran when it came to icky gross stuff coming out of a little one's bum...but this is getting really old. Does he just find the water so relaxing...it just happens? Not that I'm blaming him...I'm just getting tired of fishing 'em all out and washing the tub! Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

hahaha...thank you Mommy B. - yes, puke and diarrhea would be worse! I will look at it that way!

I feel so bad rushing the whole thing because he LOVES his baths (maybe a bit too much?) I'll have to try the vinegar thing...I'm running out of my nice tub spray :p.

ETA: In an attempt to be brilliant...I gave him his bath this morning...he still ended up sitting on the pot while I went fishing. Oh well.. . :p. It could be worse...it could be worse....

My oldest was a famous tub even shower pooper till about 2-3. Yes it does relax them as gross as it was I didn't mind so much because he always had issues with pooping. It does relax them. His doctor actually made that suggestion to me to use a warm shower or bath when he was really constipated when he was still an infant. Now that he is five there are still times he will get in for a few minutes and we have to get him out so he can use the toilet. Its not uncommon.

Your title is amusing, as is "fishing them out".

Hmm, puke or diarrhea would be much worse.

The stage will pass, but that warm relaxing water is beckoning:) I say, give him a bath after he's done with TCOB.

(now that song is in my head "...and workin' overtime!")

I forgot about my son pooping in the tub...thanks for the reminder!!!

I would do this:

Make a huge, stinking, gross deal out of it...how mama can not stand that.

I instantly picked him up and placed him on the toilet dripping wet, as there should be one of those available in your bathroom. And I made him wait there and watch me while I cleaned out the tub. If he was older I would have made HIM fish out the turd with a cup. But at 18 mos. I scooped it out and placed it in the toilet and he would flush it . After the tub was cleaned we started again.

The relaxed pooping stopped after a few times of that treatment.

lol, POOPY the father of all grossness. Yeah my nephew was a log launcher in the tub. No matter the temp, the amount, you put him in and a canoe of poo came popping up. GA-ross.
My sister ended up making him stand in a tub and rubbed him down with a bucket of water and wash rag, at the end she poured it over him, wah-lah done. He never pooped doing that, and just phased into showers after that.

Yeah, we have a tub pooper, too. NOT FUN. Especially when she does it when her big sis is in there too. She is 22 months old. Grrrr.

We keep the amount of toys to very few and wash their hair immediately when they get in. We keep an eye on our stinker butt and the minute she looks like she's gonna do it, we tell her she can't and pull her out and put her on the pot.

She is getting better about saying "poop" when she needs to and we pull her out.

We also use vinegar to clean the tub and toys. Yuck.

My friends third child did it so often, her other kids didn't want to bathe with her anymore. They started putting her in swim diapers for her bath.

I am no help, but I am there with you. My almost 2 year old had done that twice in the last week and never before. She was constipated the first time and I think it relaxed her, though she didn't like it and the second I don't know.

It upsets her so I don't think mine (or yours) realizes what is going on until too late. Luckily this last time she didn't and I was so happy.

Good luck!

LOL ewwwww. Yes it's totally normal (unfortunately). My son is 6 and still has to hop out of the bath to poop almost every time he bathes!

The only thing I could suggest is to change the timing of his bath to just AFTER his usual poop time. For kids that age, that's usually like 30 minutes after eating, but you know your baby. Wait until he poops in the evening and THEN run his bath.

Good luck :-/
