Poopies at Night

I have a 3 year old daughter who is potty trained but still has poopies at night and sometimes at naptime. While I know this isn't abnormal for her age I am so tired of waking up to poop everywhere cause she beyond fills her diaper/pull-up. We consistently encourage her to try to do it in the toilet before bedtime and she has spent up to 10 minutes on the toilet but rarely does anything and poops in her diaper anyway. Does anyone have suggestions for helping her/her body figure out how to wait until she wakes up to poop?

What can I do next?

It's likely that her body has not matured enough for her to be poop free during the night.

Suggestions that have worked for other people are to put her in a larger size of diaper or to put a large size vinyl pants over the diaper.

Is her poop diarrhea? If the poop is solid a larger size diaper should keep it confined. If it's diarrhea you'll want to treat that.

Does she poop at all during the daytime? You could try putting her on the toilet a couple of times (or more) per day and see if you can train her body to poop in the daytime. I think the most likely time to be able to poop is a couple of hours after eating. I'm not sure about the time, tho.

Have you tried Good night brand pull ups.. they are in a purple bag.. the only ones that work well for us.. Or either a larger size diaper like pampers crusiers and go up a size.. also i am not sure if you can figure out what time of night she is going to the bathroom.. maybe check on her when you go to bed.. then if you or your partner get up to use the restroom at night check to see if she neeeds to be changed. or maybe tell her if she ever goes poopies and she is awake.. tell mommy or daddy that she needs to be changed and you are not mad.. sometimes my 3 year old would poop right before she fell asleep.. so I told her to yell from her crib I pooped.. that way I knew to change her and she was not just pitching a fit about the normal bedtime.
Best of luck,
Lenc

K.,
I do not know what to tell you for help except to say that you cant say your daughter is potty trained if she is still wearing diapers? I am guessing she just isnt ready yet.

When it comes to night training, all you can really do is wait until their body is mature enough to wake them up. For some kids this happens young, My son was 22 months, for others much older, my cousin was 12. They do make disposable mats that go on the bed to make clean up easier and to protect the sheets and mattress. I would also check her when you go to bed to see if she has gone, so you can change her diaper and try to keep it from over filling. I know it can be hard with a 3 year old! Just hang in there, she will get it eventually.

Blessed Be.

This is interesting to me...only because I am now learning a lot about my daughter's digestive problems. She is 4. I have learned that she is lactose intollerent. I bring this up to you because she showed signs that I never would have thought would be anywhere near related and they are. She is completely potty trained during the day but wakes up from naps/night completely soaked. She wears pullups. She also goes the the bathroom a lot more than others and always has had very loose/large stool. I am wondering that if your daughter is still pooing at night maybe there is something health related that would explain it...I havent heard of anyone else with these issues...Talk to your doctor about it. Good luck.
