My son is a year old and used to 'go' every other day or once a day. Recently, he's been going 3-6 x a day to the point where it's interfering with naps... any ideas? He mostly nurses in terms of fluids, not a big fan of the cup, mostly plays with it, but he doesn't have diareah, his poops are the same as they used to be just way more frequent. I'm thinking his system needs time to adjust to the amount of food he's been eating???

What can I do next?

Hi Heidi,

Normally very time you eat you should have a blow movement. Most people do not get enough fiber in their diet to allow this to happen. Also, try sitting with him on the toilet. I did this with my son. It allowed him to relax and not worry about the poop touching him and he was able to completely empty his bladder. But if he is not constipated or doesn’t have diarrhea that you are doing right by your son and he is normal.

if its not diarrhea i wouldn't be too concerned. i used to be almost able to set a watch by my son's poop but after he got 10 mos+ his pattern changed.

i hate when he ends up pooping overnite or during a nap (and has to lay in it because i don't know he's poopy), so make sure that he doesn't develop a rash. otherwise, it seems fine to be a multiple pooper ;o)

At our healthiest...we poop just as often as we eat. In adulthood we are happy with once a day but as babies they go a lot because their systems are working at full force. As long as it isn't runny or oddly colored it's fine. He sounds quite healthy to me.
