I've never had bad, if any, symptoms of PMS in the past. I had a baby about 9 months ago, and have only had 3 periods since. I've noticed before I menstruate I get REALLY whacked out. The couple of days prior I've noticed being very depressed (just absolutely hopeless feeling), anxious (like I'm going to jump out of my skin) and very very angry. For no reason, just at everyone. It's terrible, and I've never felt anything this intense or severe before. I'm thinking about talking to the doctor about it - it has happened the last 2 times I've menstruated. But I'm breastfeeding and I'm worried my doc will just want to give me anti-depressants or something. Anyone had any experience with this? Is it possible it's still my hormones trying to get back to normal after having my baby?

What can I do next?

Weird! I'm freaked about this too.
After I had my first baby, my period was heavier and then went back to normal flow within a few cycles. I never had horrible PMS symptoms.
After my second baby, it is totally different. I am moodier during ovulation and my period and get almost sick during those times too. It is stressful. I actually set up an appointment with a endocrinologist thinking my hormones are out of whack. If anyone finds out why, let us know.

I totally have this happen after each baby (4 now), especially if I get my period before I am done nursing. I always just stick it out and am fine once the nursing is over. I am not a fan of taking anything for it so I always steer clear of the doc. I do know that keeping your foods fresh, no caffeine, low sugar, low dairy, you will be able to manage it a bit better.

Just be sure to really pay attention to your symptoms and that they go away when your period is over. I had Post-pardum depression after my second and that is a whole different beast. Didn't do drugs then either but it is very serious and you need to be sure it doesn't get out of control.

It really sounds hormonal to me, it will pass. these babies really mess with out bodies.

My psych professor always said that PMS is a man made disorder. That apparently there is no psychological reason for it.

Who knows, I have never been effected by it.

Anyway she didn't really like guys always saying oh are you PMSing every time a woman disagrees with them. :p

Is it possible that you are just stressing because nothing is regular yet. I mean if I were having irregular periods I would be stressed with just the did I get myself pregnant, oh my god I can't handle kids this close together.....

I had/have similar symptoms. I resisted seeing a doctor for two years, but am glad I finally received help. The depression was the worst part. I know it was related to my period because I could almost track when the depression would begin and end. The doctor tried different birth control pills, including YAZ, but it didn't work for me--I am very sensitive to hormones and get bad migraines around that time of the month. I was finally prescribed an anti depressent to take every day and anti anxiety meds to take when things got really bad. Also, something that seemed to help was the nuva ring because it had a tiny dose of hormones. My doctor also had me not having a period except once every four months by use of the nuva ring and that helped a little.

Yes, I have. I feel your frustrations. I was un-bearable I would say for at least 4 days. Un-bearable to myself and others. VERY intense and almost horrifying at how my mood would go from 0 to 60 in about 1/2 a second. I went to the doctor, and you are correct, he did perscribe an anti-depressent. It made my life 100% different. I know there a lot of reservations people have to going on these medications and I understand them. I know there are some anti-depressents that are safe for breastfeeding mothers because of PPD. Definately see the doc, and go from there. Sending happy thoughts!

PMS or PMDD... yah, it makes a woman feel like that.
If it is hormone based.
TRACK your symptoms, and your menstrual cycles.
IF the symptoms are "cyclical" and there is a pattern to it, per your menstrual periods... then chances are, it is PMS.

Pregnancy, does affect the body in many ways. Even after giving birth. It does affect hormones.

I have PMS... and I always track it/my periods and just KNOW when PMS will arise.
I get moody/irritable. But not depressed.
I CAN tell, when it is a hormone based 'irritability' or me just having a grumpy day.
Because, my irritability, is cyclical. Then once I have my period, it is gone.

But yes, talk to your Doctor.
Anti-Depressants are NOT the only thing for it.
OR see a Naturopath Doctor... and then there will be natural, remedies for it.
So there are alternatives.... to anti-depressants.
And, just because your Doctor suggests Anti-Depressants, that does NOT mean you have to take it or that that is the only, remedy.
Ask for alternatives. Natural alternatives.

It takes the body, about 1 year, for the body to normalize after giving birth.

I am going through the same thing! I just had my second baby 8 months ago, I've never had any problems with PMS before just the usual, but now all of a sudden I'm turning into this monster I can't control. I can't take it anymore and I hate being like this every month. I just made a doctor's appointment. Hopefully he will be able to help me out. I wouldn't wait. Make a doctor's appointment as soon as you can to get this taken care of. For yourself and your family. I hope everything works out :)
