while your hotwater heater was empty you needed to check the connection from it to your inside pipes :(... Certainly that's where the problem lies.
Is there a plumber out there? I have a question. All of a sudden our hot water pressure in the whole house has gone to a trickle. 2 weeks ago, we emptied our hot water heater & that didn't help. Is there anything else we can do before calling for a repairman??

We had a similar problem a few years ago. I had noticed that I couldn't get enough hot water to fill the bath. We did the same thing, emptying the hot water heater(which seemed to be making plenty of hot water), but it didn't help.
When we had a plumber come out, he fixed it in less than half an hour. It turned out to be a hard clog of mineral deposits in the pipe right next to the water heater. He showed us the pipe after he cut out the clog. What should have been a one inch pipe was narrowed down to less than 1/8 inch. It was such a solid mineral deposit that it couldn't be unclogged, just had to replace the section of pipe..
He said that this had happened to other houses in our area, and there was a possibility that broken water pipes or work by the city could have allowed contaminants to get in the system.
I hope you find an answer.
There is a pipe that connects the water heater to your house that can become clogged with sediment and stuff over many years. I am not a plumber but this happened to me. On the moring of my daughter's 2nd birthday, When I was 6 months preggo, the same day my grandma was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. I had to heat water to give my kids baths and go to my moms to take a shower. (thankfully she lives close). So THAT was a bad day. Back to you... So this might be your problem. I am not sure it is something you can fix yourself or not. We rent so the landlord sent someone to fix it. But you can sure look into it.
If your pipes run under the house you could have a slab leak. Does the floor feel hot in anyone area of the house?
