Women's Specialty Care is wonderful, I would definitely give them a call. I also saw Desert Perinatal Group for my Perinatologist (was referred by Women's Specialty Care). Hope this helps, good luck!

I am a patient of Women's Specialty Care and I love them. Dr. Volker is my doctor but Dr. Layton (female) is excellent as well.

As far as the amnio, I absolutely would not have it done. I had to make that choice as I was an older Mom at 38. There is a significant risk of miscarriage with amnio. If you are going to love this baby no matter what, why take the chance. If it's just to check to status of a Down's Syndrome baby or other chromosomal abnormality I would NOT do it unless there was significant evidence of a problem. I even had a slightly elevated triple screen for Down's Syndrome and still refused the amnio. My baby girl is healthy and happy with no chromosomal abnormalities. You are in charge of your body no one can make you have an amnio. If a doctor is overly anxious for you to have it done then I would change doctors. No one pressures me at all, they gave me the option and I said no and that was the end of it. Good luck with your decision and new baby.

I know my response is late, but I have to let you know that I understand where you are coming from. I am also Sierra Health HMO. The "system" (as another girld called it) is horrible. I have looked in the HMO provider list and the only doctors covered are the ones at Southwest Medial Associates and there is one on Civic Center. It is a horrible situation to find that your health care is not the top priority of your doctor. I even found out at month 5 that I was high-risk and should have had several tests taken even when the very issue that made me high-risk was a concern that I spoke to her about from the beggining. When I confronted my provider, Navarro, and she said, "Well if anything would have happened, it would have most likely already have happened. Just be happy that you didn't lose it." What!!!! I was p'd off!!!! Went to Dr. King at the Tenaya office and he pulled me from her and acknoledged that she made some very wrong decisions. I like him. So if it's not to late, I suggest trying to get an appt with him.

Now as for the amnio, I am pretty sure it is entirly your decision. You don't have to get it done, however the deem that the benefits way out weigh the risks after a certain age and that may be why they have recommended it for you.

I also have the HMO Health Plan of Nevada. I have had soo many problems with the "system". I love the doctors at Summerlin Hospital! Womens Specialty Care. ###-###-#### They are in the office next to Summerlin Hospital. You might spend awhile on hold, but they are so nice, and take alot of time to help you and answer all your questions! Sorry I don't know much about amnio, but I do know that it's your choice!

F., you as the patient make the final choice on any procedure!! If you feel that everything is going normal, and you have had normal ultrasounds and bloodwork then you do what you feel is right. As with any expectant mom, you must ask yourself what you would do if the baby does have a developmental issue. Many families are now having children after 35, infact I think it is almost the "norm" anymore. Goodluck and do what you feel most comfortable with.
Good Luck!:) and have a happy healthy pregnacy
