4 months ago, my new husband and I put in a new lawn. To take care of this lawn, we purchase an electric powered mower from peoplepoweredmachines.com, the Sunlawn EM1 Cordless Reel. We received the mower a month later. My husband put the mower together and started mowing with it. FIVE MINUTES into mowing the metal piece that held the handles to the mover broke off and went flying past my husband's face. The handles went right into the blades. (I have pictures of all of the parts) Turns out the metal piece was made of a composite metal of low grade quality. This product could have caused major damage to my husband, possibly putting out an eye or taken off a finger if the handles had slipped further.
I contacted the company and told them what had happened and demanded a return label. The company seemed concerned but after 1 month of run around to get the return label, I finally got the item sent back. They refunded me all but $50. I contacted the company (representative: David Temple) about the $50 and they are charging me for returning the item.
Please do not purchase this item. I'm not sure what I can do to get this product off the market, but please pass this on so that no one else has this experience. If anyone knows of any action groups that can help remove this product from circulation, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
J.
So far I have contacted the better business bureau which handles disputes between consumers and businesses.
My settlement request:
"I would like my $47.78 back and I would like them to stop selling the EM1 Cordless Reel."
The business responded with:
"Jo Lynne purchased an EM-1 mower and chose not to have it replaced at our cost. She chose to return the mower for a refund. We refunded her the total less our shipping costs. This is our company policy and is stated on our website."
I do not know why I would want another product that is so defective. I have a hard time letting this go. I do not want someone else hurt because I didn't get this product removed from the market. I'm not really sure how to handle this.
I would suggest you contact Consumer Reports. Send them the pictures.
I would contact all the local news and see if they will put it on the news!!! Thats awful!!
Contact the Better Business Bureau.
You might also contact Fox 4 for the reporter (I forgot his name) that does "Deal or Dud."
Good luck!
OMG!! You should absolutely contact the Better Business Bureau and one of the local TV stations or newspaper! I am from CA, and back there if this happened to someone, they would sue the pants off that company! Also, if you paid by credit card, you can contact your credit company and request a charge back. The credit company will send a letter to the mowe company. The mower company has a cerain amount of time to respond, and if they don't respond at all or the credit company feels their response is insufficient, they will charge back the mower compnay and refund your account. Thank God your husband is OK and good luck with everything!
