See a different doctor and get a second opinion.
First post, my apologies if it’s TMI
My son self weaned about 2.5 months ago and everything was fine until about 3 weeks ago when I felt a tugging, I guess. I thought something was in my bra scratching me and reached in to check, but it was skin. Upon taking a closer look, I noticed small scabs around the base of my nipple on the areola. I peeled one away and the skin underneath was very red and tender - like the skin under a typical scab anywhere else on the body. It seems to be spreading a bit around the base and up the side of my nipple, as I’m finding additional spots regularly, but in the same area. Then, just today, I noticed a new one on the opposite side of my nipple almost on the top, and it began leaking a yellowish/clear/blood. When I asked my Dr. about the initial scabs, he just dismissed it as typical weaning/dried breast milk. These are scabs, not breast milk. I have four kiddos and have never experienced anything like this before.
Feeling frustrated and hoped to find some guidance here to maybe put my mind at ease.
See a different doctor and get a second opinion.
SEE the Dr. If it is still dismissed, see another Dr.
I don't want you to not get it checked out further, however I had this happen when I weaned my last child.
It healed up in the end.
I wore breast pads for a while. They were chaffing (as awful as that sounds). That did the trick.
I think I may also have used an ointment just to help with the healing. I can't remember what it was exactly - but nothing prescribed.
Hope that helps. If it doesn't help, I would go back or get another opinion.
Get a second opinion. And in the mean time try applying lanolin and wearing pads to keep it from further being irritated by your bra. I leaked for years after weaning. My monthly cycle can still bring leakage and my last baby has been weaned for 4 years. I have been to 3 Drs and all said the same thing leaking is normal and the length of time it lasts for depends on the woman and her hormones. But mine never bled not scabbed or were raw.
