Hi there mommy's. I have an odd request for help for all you ladies. I bought my daughter a BRAND NEW pair of sandals on Monday from stride rite (not cheap) ;-(. Tuesday afternoon I was looking for her shoes to go to the park and could only find one. I looked EVERYWHERE and pretty much turned my house upside down. The last place i thought it could possibly be is the garbage..since she's at that age where she is throwing everything away. That night I had no choice but to go through the garbage and after much searching I did find her shoe!! Unfortunately i think i may be ruined. I was able to wipe everything off the shoe but the actual sole is soiled and smells absolutely AWFUL!!!! I looked online that night and it told me to put it in baking soda to absorb any moisture and to deodorize. I left it in there for about 24 hours but it still smells horrible. I then washed the shoes in tide and again it came out still smelling bad. I am SOOO mad...the shoes have never been worn and they are SO SO cute!! :( Do any of you genius mommy's out there have any suggestions for me??? I am willing to try ANYTHING!! Thanks for any and all help!!!

Hi!
Good luck with this!! I was thinking maybe febreeze, and sitting them outside in the sun! Just keep spraying them w/ febreeze, and also, maybe lysol?? Anything to get the germs that have rotted on them out!!! One thing though, the one that stinks may start looking more worn with all the treatment, so maybe you should do the other shoe too for good measure???

Take Care!

all suggestions sound good. My sis has had luck getting disgusting foot odor out of her kids' shoes by adding a dryer sheet overnight. Maybe that could help as a last resort.

Good luck!

Just as winter ended my older daughter had awful smelling foot odor. I soaked her shoes in Oxyclean in hot water for a day and then washed them twice. Granted the smell was on the inside but it might work for the sole as well. We also sprayed her shoes with Tea Tree oil. I have heard alcohol might help remove smell for the soles of shoes. I use vinegar to remove smell from laundry so that is a possibility.
So far I have not had to dig shoes out of the garbage, but the remote, phone, hair brush are another story. The hair brush stayed there.

Add vinegar (maybe a cup for a small load) to the wash water and allow it to sit and soak after the tub fills before you run the cycle. Vinegar is an amazing smell treatment. Give it a try! And good luck.

Put some vinegar in a spray bottle, spritz the shoe, and let it sit out in the sunshine. It might take 2 applications but it should get rid of the smell. Good Luck!

I will suggest you can try Oxiclean. My sons sneakers sometimes get pretty smelly and I soak them first in Oxiclean and then wash them using Oxiclean in the wash.

I have never tried rubbing alcohol but I have read that is works. Rub items then wash.
One other suggestion I have never done on shoes but in other situation. Take the shoe, put it in a plastic bag along with a container of room deodorizing crystals. (It is a container that you remover the top and it is filled with odor trapping crystals. Usually used to deodorize basements or around cat boxes) Leave in the bag for up to a week and it should help eliminate the odor.
I do not know but maybe putting baking soda in a bag and placing the shoe in the bag will do the same thing. Never tried it worth a try.

Hope one of these helps.
