Could she be constipated? I know that will stop their appetite. Five days is a long time, but if she hasn't gone or only goes a little, that could be the problem.

Does she go to daycare or any other childcare? My son was like that when he got hand foot and mouth. Their throat hurts really bad, he would put the food in his mouth and not chew. Look in her mouth with a flash light and see if there are any red spots or sores. Also look on the bottom of her feet and hands. My son was crabby with it.
You can try the pediasure nutripals drink, it has lots of vitamins and 150 calories. Yogurt, smoothies, jello, or ice cream worked well for my son when he would not eat.
How are her diapers? I suggest that you call the doctor, 5 days is a long time. My doctor always said that a few days was o.k. as long as he was drinking.
Good luck, I hope she starts to eat soon. I know how you feel, whenever my son does not feel good he won't eat. It is heart braking, when all you want is for them to eat just one bite.
You probably should do what these other mothers are saying regarding calling the doctor but after going through 4 kids they do stop eating. Don't try and make her eat. When she is hungry she will tell you. For some reason kids do this periodically. And then they just start eating normal again. This will happen a couple of times until she is about 5. It's just like when you have them going to slepp regularly and then all of the sudden they won't go to bed, or they wake up in the middle of the night for no reason. My son did this for a couple of weeks, I think some of it may have been that he liked the attention. He would eat Kraft American slices, or finger food but nothing I would prepare him. Just make sure she keeps drinking something. If nothing is wrong with her after you talk to the doctor, it's just a phase they go through, she will probably do it again.
My daughter is 17months and is teething right now and is having a very hard time with it :( She has gone the past week without eating much of anything, we finally got her to eat some scrambled eggs yesterday. As someone else said ... try yogurt, oatmeal, things that are very soft. It may be because he's teething and it hurts so bad that he doesn't want to eat anything??? I think that's what is wrong with my daughter anyway. Good Luck with it :)
Some children go through this. Its not uncommon. As long as she is drinking and not dehydrated then do not get worried. There is pedisure that you can get for her.
Hi P.,
If you haven't already called the doctor, now might be a good time. They'll either have some suggestions or they might want to see her.
As far as filling up her tummy goes, I would try yogurt without fruit pieces in it (Yo Baby is a good brand for babies-- it's made with whole milk. Stonyfield Farm makes it, it's organic, too). If she won't EAT that, you might want to scoop some into a sippy cup and mix it with some milk-- like a smoothie. My kids love it. Other softer things you could try-- mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and cold fruit. If they're not choking hazards for her, you might want to try cold carrots or apple slices-- the cold and counter-pressure might feel good on the gums. Grapes might also provide some nutritional relief.
Another thing you might want to try for teething is just giving her some Tylenol or Motrin about 30 minutes before mealtime.
These are just a few things off the top of my head. Good luck. I hope she's better soon!
Hi P.,
My son is the same age and I too have been having problems getting him to eat, though not as severe as what you have described. I know that he has molars coming in and I remember that he usually did not eat as much when his other teeth came in. What has helped is keeping him busy when he eats. If I give him a toy, I can usually manage to stick some food in his mouth since he is occupied. Yogurt, oatmeal, bread and still some jar food are what has worked for me. In any case, I would call the doctor too. Good luck.
PEDIASURE. If she will drink this for a few days it has all the calories she needs. You can buy it at Walgreens or Jewel in the baby aisle. I am sure she will be chewing again soon. Take care.
