I have a 3 1/2 yr old that learned how to go potty 2 months ago. For the last month she's gone on her own without me needing to remind her. I thought we were doing great but now I have another concern and I'm not sure when I need to take her to the doctor. She's usually eager to go potty when I ask her to go but since she hasn't gone she's resistant to trying. She'll sit on the potty and tell me that there isn't any pee, or that she doesn't have to go. At times I know that she's been stubborn and wants it to be on her terms (be in control) so I backed off hoping that she'd go on her own when she needed too. Usually she'll go potty during the night while she's asleep (she's not night trained yet) but last night she didn't go, she was dry this morning. I've been It's been quite a while since she's gone and I'm really concerned. I'm not sure if it's a power thing, or that she has UTI that she doesn't want to go because it hurts, or could there be something else wrong. At what point should I worry?

What can I do next?

I'd check around and make sure she is not peeing somewhere else - seriously.

Man! Some of these moms are fast typers!! I was going to say a combination of the first three:
1) give it time- I would say about a week before I would call a dr unless she actually tells you it hurts. Then a UTI could be the cause.
2) check and make sure she isn't going somewhere else. I have heard that kids do that when they are trying out their whole control thing. Even kids that you wouldn't think would. check in the closet, on a pile of clothes, or behind a corner table etc... my cousin's kid did that and it was a surprise to all of us
3) give her more to drink. Maybe she just had a day or two with not enough

It probaly is a power thing. My daughter was the same way, she's 8 now and we still have to tell her to go to the bathroom. We've had her checked out at the Dr. office but there is nothing wrong. You should get her checked by Dr. but don't make a big deal about it to her. If there is nothing wrong physically then its just something she is trying to control.

I would give it a while. Sometimes it takes them a while to try and get all those muscles working right. Since she woke up dry that is a good sign. She is trying to get everything worked out. If it hurts when she goes to the bathroom then she will tell you. You might want to try to get her to drink more liquids because that will not hurt her either way.

Make sure she's drinking plenty of fluid and offer her some cranberry juice.
