Hi Mamas!

We're looking to get our two boys a playhouse for the backyard. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd also like suggestions on ones to definitely stay away from. Our boys 3.5 yrs old and 21 mos. They're taller than the average toddler so I want to make sure we don't get anything too small for their height.

Thanks in advance!
M.

I don't have any suggestions for a small playhouse but we've had our Rainbow playset for 4 years and my kids still love to go out and play on it. My oldest 2 were about 3 1/2 and 18 months when we bought it. It took the youngest a few months to learn how to climb up into the clubhouse but they've been using it ever since. My now 18 month old can climb up the ladder and the slide to get to the clubhouse. I still have to stand behind him to make sure he gets up there safely, but he's doing it already!! So I now have a playset that can be used by my 7 yr old, 5 yr old and 18 month old!

Rainbows can be expensive depending on the size and features you choose, but they last a long time and I'm told you can actually get a pretty good amount back in resale when your kids do outgrow it. http://www.rainbowplay.com/

Good luck,
K.

HI M.,

I don't know how much you plan on spending, but we bought my daugther a HUGE playhouse complete with 4 windows, AC cutout, Farm Doors, and a Porch for about $3000 from Woolf Sheds in San Antonio. Culebra and 410. Its 10X12 but you can get them any size! We painted it pink. She's only 4 but she LOVES it. I filled it with the plastic Little Tyke/Step 2 toys, but it will grow with her, so we are not buying multiple playhouses thru the years. Check them out, they have several sizes and you paint it what colors you want. For the boys, you could do a construction theme, or fire trucks or whatever they are in to at the time, then change it up every couple of years. Makes for a great "kids only" hang out room. I also liked that it got TONS of toys out of the house! haha

Oh! And my daughter is VERY tall for her age too. I found that the plastic playhouses were too short for her and she didn't play with them even at friends houses. She just turned 4 and is taller than most Kindergardners!

The plastic playhouses have a limited lifespan. We got ours a fisher price and it is now at their school on the Pre-K playground. We got a good 6 or 7 years out of it, but after age 3 or 4, it was not much use to them.

It is hard to find something that will suit both your kids.

Hi M.-

We got our kids a playhouse from Sam's made out of cedar wood. It cost about $300 but I think it was totally worth it. It's large enough for the kids (ours are 5 yrs and 18 mos) to play in and around very comfortably. The inside is tall and there's a porch with little benches under it and everything. It's great as far as wear and tear goes with the weather (won't fade like the plastic ones). Since we bought it (we got it at the end of last fall and just gave it to our kids this spring), Sam's has a new model of it in their stores and online.

Here's a link to the new model, but it is still very similar to the one we got. Ours doesn't have a floor included (currently it's on our porch in our backyard), but it comes with information where you can order one from the manufacturer & I think on Sam's website maybe too). We just moved around some stuff in our yard so it's about to go out there after we buy some concrete blocks or something to put it on).

Hope that helps! I'm sure your kiddos would love it! I know our neighbors' kids love coming over to play with ours.
