We got a Little Tykes when my daughter (now 13) was 2. It was great, held up well and is now being used at my neighbor's house with their 3 girls under 5.
I am starting to research kitchen sets for my daughter's 2nd birthday. She loves to "feed" her dollies and delights in playing with her Fisher Price Pots and Pans set along with an assortment of plastic plates and Tupperware. A lot of the kitchen sets seem like they are really geared for older children. Any suggestions for a set that is right for a 2 year old? Thanks for your input!

Not sure what the age limits are on these things, but most of the Little tykes equipment seems like it would work well for that age group. Try Craigslist - you can get really great bargains on that kind of stuff. Good luck!
This might be considered for older kids, but we bought the Ryan's Room brand kitchen at target for my daughter's 2nd bday (she's now 3.5) and she loved it and still does. It's all wood, no batteries needed, fits perfectly in our playroom and with the decor. We have a small table and chairs next to it and it works great. My youngest daughter just turned one and she LOVES to play with it too. She drags out all the play velcro food, pots, pans and just has the best time. It's super sturdy and grows with both of them.
I bought my son his at his 3rd bday from Target and It's all wooden. He Loves it.
Hope this helps.

We received this kitchen, http://www.step2.com/product.cfm?product_id=1218 , as a gift when my 5 yr old was almost 2. I have since had 2 more kids (now 3 and 1 1/2). All of my children from the oldest to the youngest play with this kitchen daily. The little one has just as much fun even though she doesn't understand all of what she is doing. I think on a toy like this, it is ok for it to be something they grow into since you'll have it for a long time. This particular one is nice because it isn't crazy looking. Only problem is that it takes 14 batteries! We just let them run down and let the kids use their imagination instead. Good luck on your search. If you are interested in getting a used one, dallas.craigslist.org always has them for sale for pretty cheap.
