Play Kitchen

I would like to buy a play kitchen for my toddler. He's 13 months now so I would like it to be one he can grow with (his cousins are 3 and 1 so they will be playing too). I want to spend around $100 and would like it to have some bells and whistles like burners that light up, a microwave that dings or similar things. It would be nice if it didn't have to be pink but it's not the end of the world either. Any suggestions? I am adrift in a sea of choices!

another vote for the step 2 lifestyle dream kichen...and get the play food...it is very realistic....read the reviews on step2.com....alot of the reviews are from moms with boys who love the kitchen set.

There is one at Walmart for $40. Don't recall the brand. Don't think it had anything light up or what not. But I am pretty sure it was gender neutral colors. I plan on getting one for my 2 year old. Can't justify spending over $100 when they have what seams to be a perfectly good one for $40.

We bought my son the Step 2 Bistro Grill. He loves it!!! It cost about $100, but it does not have light up burners or anything that dings. But we really enjoy the time we spend playing with it, which is almost everyday. For a little extra $$$, I would suggest the Step 2 Ultimate Dream Kitchen (?).It's the one the child can actually walk into. A friend has it and it is so awesome!!! Hope this helps!

We bought our son the Step 2 kitchen for about $129 on sale. It's not girly, and it does make some sounds. It also came with some dishes and pots/pans! He loves it. His sister also tries to play with it, at 18 months old. It's big enough to last awhile. The wood kitchens are nice, but pricey. Good luck!

We have bought the Play Wonder kitchen set and market set from Target and are so happy with them. THey are made out of wood and are blue, with red and white accents. They don't have a lot of bells and whistles, but I think they are one of the nicest sets out there. I liked that it wasn't plastic and didn't look cheap. No stickers that will eventually peel off and look bad. They were both under $100 each. Well worth the money. All the neighbor kids love coming to our playroom and playing with it! You can check it out online at Target.com.

Target has a blue wooden kitchen

Toys R Us has a big selection

And if you got to learning stores/teacher stores you can find them in plain wood but a little more spendy

It is a great investment something they will play with for many years, my 6 year old still loves her kitchen set which was mine when I was little. It's a little tykes 20years old or so and still looks great.

My favorite one, if you could come up with a little more money:

There are some simpler ones, but the bigger ones 'grow' with them. I like my wooden kitchen I got at a garage sale, it's durable. But when we move, I am selling that one becaues it's harder to move around. Toys R Us has several to choose from.

Just wondering if you have tried Craigs list. www.craigslist.com
It is local once you put in the city...like a garage sale online. Most have pictures. I have only bought one thing but it was a good experience. A power wheels jeep (small one) for only $50. Sure it is used but my toddler did not care at all. Hope this is helpful.

This Interactive kitchen by Little Tykes is the one that my daughter has and it's awesome - super durable and not "gender" specfic by any means. It sounds like it's exactly what you are looking for. We love playing with it and it comes with great bells and whistles for the price!

Might I suggest buying one that has NO bells and whistles, so he uses his imagination more? My boys have a wooden kitchen, and they play for a very long time, making thier own sizzling, dinging, and 'cooking' noises. Do you really want another noisy bright light flashing toy around? I doubt it, get your son a good old fashioned 'do it yourself' toy instead of something plastic! I promise that something he has to use his imagination with is going to be much more stimulating than something that lights up and dings/buzzes at him.

The Target kitchen is great. Pottery barn makes one too, also if you look at www.moolka.com they have a great wooden kitchen as well.

minneapolis.craigslist.org!

seriously - people sell that stuff all the time & a lot of it is in like-new condition.

of course, i'm a big fan of the 3 r's (reduce, reuse, recycle)!

We have a Step 2 kitchen and they come in a variety according to price. Ours was about $150-160. It does have a burner that lights up, over buttons and microwave buttons make noise, and so does the phone. It comes in maroon or the older dark green counter top. Not girly at all.

We got my daughter a play kitchen for Christmas last year it is made by Step2 Lifestyle Deluxe Kitchen, here is the site for it...
http://www.step2.com/product.cfm?product_id=1218
But it is tan and dark green, it has a dishwasher, sink, stove with light up burners and a bubbling burner, a microwave, oven, etc. It also comes with food, dishes, and pots and pans. It is a lot of fun to play with. At least my 4 year old daughter and her friends think so. We spent about $200 for it brand new, but I have seen them for a lot less on Craigslist and such.
Good Luck!!

We got the Grow with Me Kitchen from Toys R Us.
It literally works for a small toddler & then you can expand it for when they get older.
http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=10&e=kitchenpl...

It makes sounds & my 21 month old has loved it since we got it when she just turned 1 years old.

Check out the website but it's purple and not overly girly.
He would love it!

Good luck!
