This is the best play dough recipe that I've come across. It has a very smooth texture, not at all grainy like the commercial Play-dough or many other recipes. It also smells great with the addition of Kool-Aid. I have made many batches of this over the years. Hope that you enjoy this fun project.
1 cup white flour
2 T. cream of tartar
1/4 cup salt
2 tsp. food coloring
1 T. vegetable oil
Med. sauce pan
1 cup water
Airtight ctn. or Ziploc bag
If you want to add a scent, to the play dough, add a a package of unsweetened Kool-Aid, coordinating the flavor with the color you are making.
Mix flour, salt and cream of tartar in a medium sauce pan. Add water, food coloring and oil and Kool-Aid if using. Stir over medium heat for 3-5 minutes. Don't worry if the mixture looks like a globby mess; it will turn into dough! When the mixture forms into a ball in the center of the pot, remove from the burner and let it cool. Then take it out of the pot and put it on a floured surface and knead it. When you are done, put it in a Ziploc bag or airtight container and store in the refrigerator.
