Anyone have any information about Plano Pediatrics? I believe it is Dr. MacDonald and Dr. Katz. I am searching for a new Ped and have heard good things, but then some bad as well. I would love some honest opinions if you have any!

J.,

We also looked into Plano Pediatrics when we were looking for a new pediatrician. Although they seemed like great doctors, we decided to go with Dr. Peter Sherrod. His office is also located near the Medical Center of Plano and we have been very impressed with his whole practice and especially the care and concern he has shown for our son. You can always get a same day appointment and you almost always have a choice of nurse practitioner or the doctor.

When our son was only 11 months he had to be hospitalized with a bad stomach virus. As first time parents you can imagine what a scary experience that was for us, but I was very confident in the care he was receiving and Dr. Sherrod went out of his way to reassure us during that time, which I truly appreciated.

I guess this doesn't directly answer your question about Plano Pediatrics, but Dr. Sherrod is another option to consider.

I have also used Dr. Katz since my 1st son was born. We chose him because both my ob/gyn and perinatologist used him. Both my son's had minor complications when they were born, and I was very happy with the way Dr. Katz managed their care in the hospital.

I have been VERY happy with the practice, and although we usually see the nurse practitioner for sick visits, I've never felt like quality of care was comprimised. There have been a couple of times that my boys were more seriously sick/injured, and either Dr. Katz or McDonald was called in by the NP. Both Dr's didn't make us wait, and my kids were treated appropriately. I absolutely LOVE the NP's.

I just brought my younger son in for an ear infection on Monday and we actually saw Dr. Katz. The have just moved into a new office and are bringing in a new Doctor (A Woman) into their practice in July. I'm sure that she will be good, as their standards are pretty high. You might consider using her.

Oh yeah, we've always gotten appointments the same day we call (unless it's late in the day).

Hi J., we have taken our Son to Dr. David Mobley and he is with Pediatrics of W. Plano at Presby. Plano. He was voted best Ped. last year I believe and we LOVE him and his staff. I think the thing that sets him apart is that he truly loves what he does and genuinely loves his patients! Our Son loves to go because the experience is a positive one. He is a father of three young children as well! Blessings, J.

I second Michelle input. They are too popular and you hardly ever get to see Dr. Katz for sick visits which are when we really need to see the doctor, right? The nurses are okay.. nothing great and the experience is too assembly line. I went there after reading the writeups in local businesses here but I would not go there if I were you. I want a more personal type of care for my child.

But I am still looking for a great Ped in Plano.

First, I don't believe they accept new patients who aren't newborns.

My daughter has been a patient of Dr. Katz since she was born. He was highly recommended by other doctors of mine, who also send their kids to him. I think technically he is a great doctor, and the staff is very capable. We've also seen Dr. MacDonald a few times for various things and also liked him.

My big problem with this practice is that it is so popular that it is extremely hard to ever see the doctor without an appointment months in advance. Instead you would see a nurse practitioner. They do get you in the same day in most cases for colds, etc. While the rest of the staff are very capable, this was not what I had intended when searching for a doctor. After hour calls are answered by a nurse. The only time we ever have contact with Dr. Katz is for our well child checkups.

Another problem I have with this practice is that we constantly have billing problems with them. Things are either not filed correctly to our insurance or we are sent bills for things we shouldn't. They also bill for EVERYTHING -- every after hours call, getting medical records, etc.

Despite these problems, we think Dr. Katz holds many of the same views we do as far as child rearing and health care. We may not stay with them forever though because of the other difficulties I mentioned.

Best of luck finding another Ped.
