My son is turning one on March 20 and his party is the 22nd, He has more toys than we can handle as it is...I need help thinking up a rhyme to put on the invites that basically says, we have the toys, we need clothes.......I remember seeing something like this on some childrens invites before but cant exactly remember how it was worded, also I was wondering if anyone can help with maybe some inexpensive birthday ideas.

What can I do next?

Thanks so much for all the respones, i read each one and It has really given me some perspective, i cant tell you how much everyone means to me!! This is the poem i chose: Ayden has a request for his presents this year, instead of new toys he would like some fashionable gear. Shirts, shorts, jeans or some new kicks.......he would appreciate this kind of gift... Thanks again ill let everyone knows how it turned out

As you can see I'm turning one
And you'll want get a toy
But Mama says I need some clothes
'cause I'm a growing boy
So the decision you'll have to make
will be kinda rough
Although I like to unwrap toys
I dont want to be in the buff!!!
I hope this helps!!! It took me about a half hour to think of it!!!!
Margaret:)
P.S. Happy Birthday!!!

You could type up a cute little wish list and print enough copies to send out with the inventations. If you put his clothing size, usually people get the hint and get him clothes. Maybe you could register him somewhere. ok here it goes........For my 1st yr, I have toys up to my ears
So if you cant think of a thing,
a gift card is what you can bring...
among other things.
My pamper supply is low and I have holes in my clothes
(size 2T)
Bathtime is fun, but Im out of shampoo.
You dont want me to stink when I visit, do you?
My party will be fun and I hpoe you can go.
Did I mention that I have holes in my clothes?
(size 2T)

Thanks,
Ethan

Whatever size your son wears, of course and his name at the bottom, of course. That was the best I came up with.

Have you thought about taking your son to McDonald's to celebrate his birthday or even to the park would be great. You can do an Easter theme or if he likes any characters you can also do that too.

Don't know how many kids you're thinking of, but for a 1 yr. old, I dept it simple and family, maybe a close friend. It's more for the parents to show off & celebrate. Age 2 is good for a couple of friends playing wiht balls, cars, yard toys etc. 3 or 4 is good for mc Donald's, and then of course, Chuck E. Cheese ! The little ride on traina are cute for 3-6 y.o., seat up to about 20 including parents to hold 'em on. Little ones are often afraid of large characters, so that's better for 5 & up. There are books, library has them, with creative themes, too. For home parties, at about 3 or 4, I made simple sandwiches (instead of pizza) and had some crafts while the kids were arriving. Enjoy !

My last child turned one in January and I have learned from my first two kids that these parties are more for the adults that the kids. This time around being a SAHM money was tight. Therefore, I made invitations with his picture on it in his first birthday hat saying "Look who's turning ONE!". I made it look like he was on the cover of a magazine. (I do this on the side if you need help). I took him to Memorial City Mall by the Carousel and just paid $10 ($1 per child) for one free ride for the kids I invited. Their parents paid for additional rides if they wanted. I bought the cake from HEB $24, and some ice cream small containers like in school, $3, plates, napkins, spoons, $3. Totaling $40.....once we had cake and opened presents everything went in the garbage and we went home. You will have wonderful pictures and will not be stressed about clean up.

OH.... I also send the invite via email to save paper. That is when I worded that I DIDN'T want toys. I LOVE Margaret's poem I wish I had it two months ago.

Hope this helps!

His bitrthday is right around Easter . You can do an Easter Theme B-day Party . The park would be nice to have a party if you don't want to have alot of people at your house .

Hi, I just had my son's 1st Birthday party two weeks ago. I am also a stay at home mom. I know about the party buget. We also had plenty of toys, and needed clothes. Here is what I did: I inserted his clothing size on the invitation, which seem to work. He got very few toys and more clothes then there are days. For our party I had planned, the hot potato game, musical chairs & a coloring contest. Our theme was baby elmo, in Target's dollar section they have many good elmo prizes. Don't forget to ask close friends and family for ideas. In our case a friend owned a cotton candy machine and our friend is a d.j. and played a lot of music the kids liked at no cost to us. Also, you can buy thin paint brushes, crayola paint, some powder thin glitter from the craft store and a baby nasal aspirator. All that makes great face painting. Just use the baby nasal aspirator to blow glitter once your drawing or name is done. Just ask somone who can draw simple things like baloons, a flower or even jus writing the name. It is a big hit. Also, Arne's has great 1st birthday themes.

I have a suggestion for the party idea. I would say doing it at a park. Mary Jo Peckham park in Katy is where we had my daughters first birthday. They have the playgrounds and they also have free putt-putt. The guys loved that. We made some hot dogs and hamburgers and had a blast!
