I have a 20 month old son that I believe has a slight case of plagiocephaly and I am deeply C. it is too late for me to do anything about it and my guilt has consumed me. My son's pedia noticed a slight plagio problem when he was an infant and he simply told me to reposition him which was not easy at all but I did for months repositioned him while he slept, utilized sleep positioners as well as pillows. IT definitely improved, and my pedia was no longer C.. Despite that I still noticed my son's head was a slight misshapen. I mentioned it again to the pedia asking if I should see a specialist and he told me not to worry about it and that he would grow out of it. Now at 20 months, I feel it is too late to consult a professional regarding the severity of the condition or if there is any treatment at this stage in the game. I made an appt with a specialist months ago and due to discouragement, stress and being misinformed I cancelled it. Now it has been bothering me and I don't know how to ease my mind. I made an appt with a specialist anyway but its a month away and time is crucial. is there nothing i can do? pls help. thank you.

my daughter also had placiocephaly and torticollis as a newborn. we took her to a specialist who said she would outgrow it and no need for the helmet. which it did. she also received PT thru early intervention for the torticollis

I know how much this makes you feel guilty, like it is all your fault...I know this cause I went through this with my son. What I can tell you is he will grow out of it even though you think it is not ever going to correct itself. My son is now 5 and his head did lose the sever misshape. It seemed to correct slowly and I am still extremely guilty and always look to make sure it is not bad. You can't even notice anymore. If your pedi really thought it needed to be corrected it would have been handled. I know two that had to have the helmet to correct this. :) It will all work itself out.

Hi there, My son had placiocephaly and torticollis as an infant. There are support groups out there. I have not been in the loop for 3 years but we put a helmet on my son when he weas 5 months old..he had it for 2 months and the shape of his head changed so much! We are so happy we did it..even though he had to wear it all the time. I hope the below links will help you or anyone else going through this. I also found 3 support groups on facebook as well if you do a search on plagiocephaly.

It's never too late, and all you can do is try. Don't give up and keep trying and reach out to the support groups mentioned below. It sounds like you got some bad advice, so don't beat up on yourself too much. It's hard to know what to do. Now it sounds like you're following your intuition and reaching out, that's the best thing to do. Just remember it's never too late to reach out and find out what you can do. And follow your intuition.
