Hi J....

My pregnany was fine until about 28 weeks when I began bleeding and was diagnosed with a placenta previa. When I went back in at 36 weeks to have it looked at, the placenta had corrected itself. I was never in any pain - just had to quit the gym and take it easy. If my daughter had not been breech, I would have been able to have a normal vaginal delivery. Many times, it corrects itself - and you have time.

With my 1st baby I had a low lying placenta. It cleared up on its own by the time I was 7 months pregnant. I never had to change anything and there were no complications. Good luck, and try not to worry!

As many already mentioned, you should confirm this with your doctor to know exactly what you have. My ultrasound indicated I had a partial pp around that same period so my doctor put me on bed rest for a week just to be safe. The issue corrected itself, I got a little break, and delivered naturally w/o a problem. Good luck!

Hi J.. Don't hesitate to ask your OB more about it. I had placenta previa and my doctor told me I may have to have a c-section. I had several ultrasounds so they can monitor it but by the third trimester it "moved" and was able to deliver my baby naturally. I would suggest you ask your doctor what you can and can't do.
Congratulations and Good luck!

I was told the same thing, it is where the placenta attaches really low to the uterian wall, in which case you could bleed during delivery so the advise c-section.
I was re mesured at a later appointment and told it was high enough to deliver naturally. As you pregnancy goes on your placenta omves upward so chances are you will be ok too.

A friend of mine had this with her second pregnancy. She was put on modified bedrest for about four weeks after the initial diagnosis. Not total bedrest, but she was limited in what she could do (hard with a two year old!). After four weeks, the condition had improved, so she was on "limited activity" for the rest of her pregnancy. It just meant she had to be careful, not do heavy lifting, and not overexert herself during the day.

She carried to term and had a healthy baby!

I had that with my second pregnancy. I started having really intense lower back pain and my doctor put me on bed rest for a week until I could get an ultrasound and an appointment to see him. At the appointment he told me that my placenta was too low. He put me on "restricted activity" which was hard with a toddler. I wasn't allowed to pick up anything heavy, do housework or anything else that involved much bending over, or have sex until my placenta moved up. It moves up as your uterus grows and eventually mine did also to a safer location and I was able to be off restriction. Everything was fine with my placenta after that. Good luck!

Hey J.,
I was diagnosed with placenta previa at 16 weeks. By my 20 week appointment it had corrected itself. I was put on a restricted activity schedule which meant minimal walking,no sex, no gym time or yoga, etc.
I would not be concerned. Most placenta previa issues usually resolve themselves. If it does not resolve itself, it may mean that they may have to do a c-section a bit earlier than 40 weeks, but all should be fine with both you and baby.

They said the same thing for me and it had moved a few weeks later. At 20 weeks, there is a good chance that it will move (something like 80% chance) if it is only marginal placenta previa. If it's partial or complete then there is less of a chance, but still a chance. I bet yours will move but if you are concerned and want more info about your specific case, you shouldn't hesitate to call your doctor. That's better than stressing until the next visit. (Side note: it doesn't actually move, but your uterus grows and so the placenta which is attached to the side of your uterus "moves" as the uterus grows). The same thing happened with my first but I was diagnosed at 16 weeks and it had moved by 20 weeks. With this pregnancy, I was diagnosed at 20 weeks, but I think by 23 weeks or maybe a bit later, it wasn't a problem anymore. Good luck!

DO NOT WORRY! I had it at around 20 weeks, and my OB was not concerned at all and said not to worry - that only 4% of cases are still present at the time of birth. With most Mamas, that placenta just keeps on moving and will be well out of the way by the time your sweet one is ready to arrive! Aside from that ultrasound, I only had one more at around 34-35 weeks and it was well out of the way by that time. Congratulations and enjoy your pregnancy!
