My school district has updated our curriculum and resources and I'm looking for a place to donate used earth science textbooks with teacher additions- sixth grade. I just don't want to throw them away....the science hasn't changed. We've just purchased newer versions. If you have any suggestions or places to contact, I'd appreciate it!

There is a place in Glen Ellyn called Scarce that you can donate the textbooks to, they recycle them to underserved schools. It is a really great organization, they recycle all sorts of teacher/school items.

Hi S.,
I know you were asking about donations, but the company I work for actually buys and sells used K-12 textbooks. If they are books that another K-12 school somewhere in the US may be interested in, your district may be able to get some money for them--always nice in tough economic times like these. The company is Follett Educational Services. There's info on book purchases online at www.fes.follett.com or you can call Customer Service and ask about it. It's nice you are looking to do something with the books instead of just toss them. Good luck!

www.bookfriends.org is a great group that ships classroom books to parts of africa to schools that are in great need. They are in wauconda and really nice people. I have volunteered there a few times and really enjoyed the experience and the thought that goes behind the idea. As a former educator it's always nice to see the cycle of learning continue. Good luck and pass the name along to your Princpal for future book donations.
