So the last week or so I have noticed every time I change my (20month) old daughters diaper she has little white specs on her anuds.. they wipe away easily and are pretty small.. they don't really look like worms and don't seem to move but its hard to tell as she is obviously uncomfortable with me looking around and having to sit still.. she also pics at her diaper but she has started potty training herself as she doesn't like to be wet only when she is busy playing so I thought her poutting her hands down her diaper was discomfort for being wet but possibly she could be itchy. If it was pinworms could I actually see them move? How long are they usually? Also she gets irritable at night time.. but again could be a stage.. iit doesn't really look like a worm tho.. just spots.. her diapers are pampers brand so I doubt its the diapers. Huggies did leave crystals on her bottom so we switched. We have never had problems with pampers.

What can I do next?

Pinworms are active at night.
Take her to the doctor for an accurate diagnosis and treatment. If it is pinworms, she will require medication, not any sort of at home treatment. And you ALL need to be careful, because they are spread very easily, particularly if you are sharing a toilet (and she is potty training herself)...

pinworms are very common..my doc once said everyone is exposed and he has no idea why everyone doesn't have them

they are pretty small but not dots...I suggest collecting a stool sample in a jar w/ a lid and making an appt w/ your doc

good luck!

Hmmm, I know that pinworms are active at night. I just looked online and there is an OTC for pinworms at Walgreens called Reese's pinworm medicine suspension, single dose. I don't know if she has them though.

I think I remember hearing that if you change her at night, you can use scotch tape ( ouch) and touch it to her skin where you see them and then take that sample in to the dr, to confirm-- although calling your doc would probably be best.

wonder where she got them??

no chance that your diapers are just cheap?

My neighbor's daughter had them. The dr made the dx by having her put a piece of tape over her anus to collect the portions that came out. The medication was a single dosage of something. Pinworms are very easily transmitted. Just like lice it has nothing to do with someone being dirty.

in addition to good advice...we are living abroad and the medicsation we were told to take in 3 doses -- once every 10 days to prevent a repeat. ask your doctor.

and...by the way...it is common. :)

What you may be seeing is the eggs. Pinworms (which I JUST got done studying in microbiology) live in the rectum. However, the female "pins" herself inside the rectum but lays her eggs OUTSIDE around the anus, which is what the "pin" is actually for ... to anchor her inside the rectum.

The eggs are EASILY transmitted through the air so you will need to take her to the doctor ... and if it's confirmed it's pin worms ... everyone in the home will need to be treated.

Good luck. And hope it's something else :)
