Pinworms

My daughter,5,was diagnosed with pin worms but she has no symptoms, no itching, discomfort around the anus or lack of appetite. I know all about pin worms and what you need to do for them. Its weird because we took her in to the doctor because she had blood on her underwear and was complaining of painful urination. Could it still be pin worms or a UTI, I believe the latter of the two.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone for their advice, everything seemed to clear up. She did take the medicine for the pin worms and the next day it showed in her stool. Her painful urination has cleared up as well. Again I want to thank everyone.

Did they test her urine for a UTI? Does she have a fever? My kids have kidney issues and the pediatric urologist always tells me if there's no fever, not to worry, since it's the fever and bodies response to the UTI that does the damage/causes scarring. With pinworms you can do the tape test at home - stick some tape to anus when she's sleeping and pull off - there should be worms on it (that's what I read at least).

Good luck!

Sure sounds more like a UTI to me. I would have some one else check her before it gets really serious.

How could they diagnose pinworms ? My kids had those when they were young and we lived in the country. The doctor couldn't "diagnose" them in the office. He needed the set of symptoms and/or a stool sample.

This just doesn't sound right to me at all, and I am concerned your little one has a problem that needs to be treated SOON.

I hope you get this resolved quickly ! Best of luck to you !

Is she running a fever? I don't believe pinworms would cause a fever and a UTI will. I would have her checked for th UTI...it is a simple urine test. It is always better to be safe than sorry. Also, have you noticed her going to the bathroom more than normal? That's another sign of a UTI. Good luck...I hope she gets to feeling better soon!

Get a second opinion if you don't feel like the dr is right.

They only come out at night. Did you take her to urgent care at night? If not, I don't know how they would have diagnosed her with them.

If she wan't tested for a UTI take her back in.You can do what is called the tape test get scotch tape before bedtime or after she falls asleep and cover her anus if you get up in the middle of the nite check it if you see anything that looks like floss or sewing thread then yes it could very well be pinworms or you can also do the flashlite test after she has fallen asleep for several hrs take a flashlite to her rectum open her cheeks so for you can get a view and they will be popping out.
