I was wondering if any one has given their infant fresh pineapple. Our baby will be 8 months tomorrow. We have lots of pineapple and my husband wanted to know if she could have some. If you have given pineapple to an infant, how did you prepare it?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. I think we are going to spare my baby's bottum and skip the pineapple for a while.

Boy, my son loves pineapple. Unfortunately, he does get pretty painful diaper rash every time I give it to him. If you want to give your baby a little taste, cut it up really small and mix it with yogurt. That might help the digestive system deal with it a bit better, and you'll prevent yourselves from giving her too much.

if you do give it, give it in moderation. For some reason it always seemed to cause a flaming butt rash when my toddler was younger!

I did a quick search and this is the first thing I found http://www.naturodoc.com/library/children/solid_food.htm

I usually use www.wholesomebabyfood.com but they didn't say anything about pineapple :)

Have fun giving your little one new foods!

p.s. I just looked at that link a little more and I am not too sure about the source but it was the only thing I could find quickly that said it was ok for little ones. I have given my 17 month old pineapple for only a few months but he doesn't really seem to like it. The only reason I didn't give it too him sooner is because it is not something we really eat at our home.

I would NOT give an infant pineapple. It is too acidic and can give them gas, diarrhea, tummy aches, canker sores, diaper rash, etc. It is not recommended to give anyone under a year old citrus fruits, including pineapple. It is also stringy and can cause choaking.

My daughter had horrible diper rashes because of the pineapples acidicness (not sure if that is a word). It is yummy but their poor butts suffer... after her 1st birthday I have given her some in very small portions with other things to snack on. It still gives her a rash if I give her more then two or three pieces and that is no good.

Hopefully once potty trained this won't be an issue any more.

At 8 months I gave mine small bite size pieces and he loved it. If the pineapple was soft enough I just chunked it up and let him have at it. If you are afraid of a choking risk, they make "feeder" pouches. You can put a large piece of food in it and they can suck and bite the fruit through the bag. You can find them in the baby utensil section. They are awesome and lets you expose your baby to all kinds of tastes and textures without the risk of choking.
