Funny how many people this has happened to...I also had a "pinch" in my neck, that went into my shoulder blade and all the way down my arm. Thought I slept funny, or just did something weird. But after three days, I went to a chiro that someone had recommended before I even had any pain. He's in Libertyville, and I've been seeing him for almost a year. Two of my colleagues also see him, and we all agree he is great! Let me know if you want his info, and good luck.

Go to the chiropractor! You should not have to be in that kind of pain. I just started going about a week ago and I can't believe how much better my headaches are. Today he worked on my shoulder, my tendenitis is flaring up and I already have much improved movement and less pain without taking Ibuprofen.

Hi K.... pinched nerves anywhere are a bear. While this isn't a home rememdy, I swear by this stuff - Recovery Rub by All Terrain. Currently, other than on-line, Heritage Health Food on 183rd Street carries it. They have an "All Terrain" display near the back of the store. Hope it helps!

Just a word of caution make sure you check out your chiropractor first. I had the exact same thing and i went in with the pinched nerve i ended up in the ER because i could barely move after the chiropractor did an adjustment and she bulged a disc in my lower back. 2 years later i am still having problems with my back.

I do believe in Chiropractors, just be careful who you go to. I went to one for several years before this, but then moved and went to this new one who did the damage.

I agree with the other posts on seeing a chiro. Dr. Ameila Case of Universal Health Institute is awesome. www.uhichicago.com ###-###-####, located near Chicago/State. However, I had terrible pain in the same location and actually got professionally fitted for the right bra. Victoria Secrets is not a professional bra fitting place. I went to My Intimacy located 900 N. Michigan. I was WAY off on my bra size and can't believe the difference it has made in my right shoulder pain, it is all gone, and how much better my clothes look and people have asked if I have lost weight (bonus!). This is the same place Oprah goes for her fitting's. Yet I don't care that I spent $88 on one bra (I bought two), it was well worth the investment and if you take care of them, they will last you a lot longer than your VS. Laura was the girl I saw. She said I am not here to sell you the most expensive (I did try on a $125 one) she said I am here to get you the right bra. I threw out my old one and walked out of the store with it on. She said about 90% of women do that. Good luck, I think it is worth a shot! :)

K.-I agree with the other two women-and you also have to consider acupuncture. What a "pinched nerve" is really a signal that your body is NOT functioning properly. Not only are the messages along you spine not getting to where they need to be-their energy has been compromised. I know of good centers that incorporate all natural modalities in the city and in the suburbs.

Drugs WILL NOT solve the problem at all. You can put peppermint and/or clove oil-it might help. Your body also needs a good detox and pH balancing (alkalinity). If you want further info please contact me.

You should definitely see a chiropractor. I have a great one that I see for my back and neck. I can give you the information if you want. He's in Aurora. His prices are very reasonable if your insurance doesn't cover it. Email me if you are interested. ____@____.com.

I agree with others - this is an indication of poor posture or a sudden irregular movement. I get them also when I am stressed and carrying things improperly.

Chiropractor is the way to go and ice.

I tried many chiropractors in Chicago and settled with Dr. Stephanie Maj - highly recommend her:

Same advice as the last one! Chiropractor and massage!
if the nerve is pinched it needs to be unpinched not just you given pain killer until you pass out.

Yes a chiropractor or for a gentler approach try a naprapath. They do adjustments and also help align muscles in the entire body, less cracking but you feel soooo much better. Also an accupuncurist can help, especially with the pain. I recommend Lena Granlund (naprapath, chiro) on Belmont ave. on the North Side. She is gentle but awesome.

If you are sure it is a pinched nerve and the pain is great enough that you ended up at the hospital, why do you want to mess with home remedies? I have been through a lot of surgeries for various reasons. I would recommend Dr. Thomas Hurley, my neurosurgeon. His office is at Silver Cross Hospital. He is very conservative. If he feels you should be seen by someone else, he will tell you. If it is something he can do, he will also tell you.

Hey K.-
I actually had the exact same thing and I went to Dr. Stretch in Elgin. He is covered by my insurance where a chiropractor isn't. He is a naprapath. He has a wonderful bedside manner and he is so good at what he does, he lectures and teaches students the same methods. He is always listening to you. I went to him and have been feeling so much better since.
Here's his website.

K.,

I had a similar situation that lasted for about three months. I finally went to see a physcial therapist that specializes in myofascial release. It was wonderful, and it totally eliminated the pain and helped with a lot of other issues that came about as a result of the pain in my shoulder. Many insurance companies will cover the therapy if you can get a referral from your g.p. I don't know where you are located, but I am in NW Indiana. If you are nearby and would like the therapists info, just let me know. Hope you feel better soon!

I think you should go and see a chiropractor. They specialize in things like this. I saw ours yesterday...I was in pain when I walked in (neck pain, back pain, hip pain--I had been putting off seeing him) and all my pain was gone when I walked out. Cost me $40 (my insurance doesn't cover it).

Hello K.! Sorry to hear about your neck and back pain. get to a Chiropractor. There are really no home remedies for this. If the shot didn't help, you need to get realigned by a chiropractor or find a D.O. (Doctor of Osteopath)that can give you an adjustment. I work as a chiropractic assistant and the longer you wait, the longer and harder it is to relieve the pain. Are you getting headaches too? Does heat make it worse? If it does, ice it. If in doubt, always use ice. If possible, find one that is a Palmer graduate. I am partial! S.
