My daughter did not have a pillow until she moved out of her crib and graduated to a big girl bed. She was about 2 1/2 when we moved her into a bed because she had jumped so hard in her crib the drop down front panel fell off so it was no crib after that.

Around two years I give mine a travel size pillow. I make the pillow cases from existing ones I have, or buy a new set of regular size ones that they like or ones that match their room. it very easy to do. Just turn inside out, place the pillow on one side edge and the opening. measure out about two inches from the pillow, around the bottom and the edge that has the excess material. Just use a pencil and a ruler and draw your line. then straiten your seams and sew along your lines, one on the bottom and one on the side. cut the extra material off and turn it right side out. Done, now you have a Cute! travel size pillow case that can be just theirs. My girls have loved them. After they graduate from the toddler bed to a twin size then I upgrade their pillows to the regular size ones.
Have fun! When she enjoys pretending to lay on your pillows, then you will know that she would love her own. another good sign is when she wakes up in the same position that she went to sleep in, well at least the same side of the bed:)

I waited until my son started sleeping in his toddler bed. He was about 26 months old.

i didn't bother with pillows until my kids were in toddler beds, so 19 months and older. they are 6 and 4 now and hardly use their pillows, but still insist on having them on their beds.

My son is almost two and while he likes to lay on the couch with the pillow or put his head on our's when he is playing on our bed, I've never felt it necessary to give him a pillow. He has his blanket, and usually sleeps on that, but he moves around sooo much, I'm sure that he wouldn't even use it. I'm thinking that when he is old enough to ask for one, then I will look into getting one.

we decided to wait on our 18 mo old because she travels too much in the crib and i doubt she would use it. i'd wait till she is in a bed.

My first daughter was in a toddler bed @ 9 months with a grown up size pillow, and second daughter was in a toddler bed with a grown up size pillow @ 10 months. I think it depends on the maturity of the child. I know you didn't ask about the beds, just thought I'd throw that in there, since I did not place the pillows in a crib and I don't know what your daughter is sleeping in. Small, cutesy, fun child size pillows are probably a better place to start, since they don't take up as much room, therefore kind of leaving it up to your daughter whether or not she feels more comfortable with a pillow :)

I gave my daughter a pillow when she was around 13 months old. This was a regular adult sized pillow. I would think she could use one now but if she doesn't need it, then I wouldn't worry about it. The reason we gave one to my daughter was because she co-slept with us about 50% of the time and loved snuggling/cuddling with our pillows so we thought it would help her sleep better!

My daughter didn't start using a pillow until she was nearly 2. I gave her one when we switched to a big girl bed at 18m and over time she started going to sleep tucked in with a blanket and pillow, now she uses it every night. I got it at IKEA, very cheap.
