"Corny" is not the word that comes to mind...
My husband and I would not attend a party nor throw a party that had those types of items in it. Sounds a bit juvenile...or frat party-ish.
I vote to skip the alternative piñata idea.
I'm thinking of having a piñata at a birthday party for an adult. I was thinking of putting "adult" things inside of it like, breath mints, condoms, chap sticks, miniature bottles of liquor, hand sanitizer and whatever else comes to mind. Part of the group who's giving the party thinks it's a corny idea and should use gift bags instead and part of us think it will be fun. What do you all think? Corny or not?

It is corny, but it is also fun. If you friends can't color outside the lines, they won't like it. Personally, I would find it a hoot.
I did this at a teacher luncheon. Included Lottery tickets and the gold Dollar coins.. Bandaids, emry boards.. No condoms.. though..
They went crazy when that thing popped open!
I'm sorry but condoms in a gift bag or pinata is just not a kind of party I would ever go to.
Corny is the least of your worries - I'd consider it trashy.
Just how old are these adults anyway?
If this is a "white trash" party I say go for it, fits the theme perfectly!
Think of a different game.
I'm probably being sensitive, but i would stay away from alcohol, lottery tickets and condoms. Those are all hot button items. My husband is a recovering alcoholic, many, many people I know are anti-gambling and condoms really will upset some people. I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but I think it would be a good idea to consider your crowd and make sure those items will be "fun" and not upset anyone.
I think it's a fun idea!
Definitely plastic bottles for the booze.
It is not something that would occur at a party that we attended or hosted.
What is the purpose of gift bags or the piñata?
If you want to do small gifts, how about a cheap white elephant gift exchange. We've participated in those types of gift exchanges and they are fun with everyone vying to get the better gifts... alcohol, lotto tickets, oddball neat items.
We do a big crawfish boil with all the trimmings, plenty of alcohol, jello shots etc BUT also keep it kid friendly with items children like to eat and drink for fun. The children choose a crawfish, have a crawfish race and win prizes.
I don't think I would include condoms in the party bag because that could be a little personal for someone (jealous spouse, STD's, etc).
You could go to a store with fun adult items such as candy, etc to use but make sure children are not there. We have a store called Sara's Secret that has all kinds of novelty adult themed party treats, clothing, and some pretty out of your mind items for sale.
Have fun.
I would never think of a gift bags for an adult party. But a friend of mine did a pinate for her husband's 40th. It was a little corny at first, but also so much fun! She also made sure to add scratch off lotto tickets. :)
Outdoor, backyard party, margaritas & fish tacos, a paper-mache donkey hanging off the tree... sounds like fun times to me!!
Maybe fill it with themed items... travel bottles of tequila (plastic), travel sunscreens & fruity candies, like Starburst.
T. :)
I think it sounds like fun...so maybe I am a little to "white trashy" for some of the people here. But oh well...miniature liquor does come in plastic bottles (oops, I know that...;-).
Some of my friends would find this fun and hilarious...others would be horrified.
So it depends on your audience.
I love the idea for the bridal shower and the teacher appreciation.
Never thought to have an adult pinanta. And I live in Texas you never have a party with kids with out one...why not the adults!! I can't wait to try this one out!! Thanks!!
I think it is both. Nothing wrong with a little corny, it can add a lot of fun ;)
Fantastic idea! I may copy it. Our friends are fun and wouldn't be at all offended by the items you mention. So I guess it depends on your crowd. I think I'd make the hitting device not too strong though or men might crack it too quickly. I think blindfolded adults who have had a drink or two doing this would be really fun.
I think it sounds fun... Definitely choose your invited guests though. As you see here there is quite a spectrum of what ppl find acceptable. So just invite the ppl that you know are going to jive with the type of party you're having.
it could be very fun, assuming it's a wild-and-crazy sort of party and not sophisticated wine-and-cheese-plate sort of deal.

Well, it sounds like it could be an incredibly fun party! Cute idea, I think. If you do the mini bottles of alcohol, be sure they are PLASTIC! haha I'd stay away from baggies.
That sure wouldn't fly where I live, on a multitude of levels. Condoms? Are you sure this is for an adult party and not for teens? Nope, wouldn't happen here.
I think it all depends on you and your guests... It sounds silly and cheesy to me, but silly and cheesy with the right people can be a lot of fun, too. Would the people coming to the party be into it? If so, go for it!
My husbands cousins made one for his 50th birthday party. It was filled with little liquor bottles, shot glasses (both plastic) and candy. It was so heavy that it broke open before anyone hit it but they all had a good time anyway.
We are not the "wine and cheese" kind of people. We like to have a good time no matter how corny or red neck it may seem, and that's why we are happy people. :-)
Glass liquor bottles hitting the ground?
Otherwise fun idea but the fillers sound lame. Find some good, cool small stuff.
I want to go to this party!! I think it sounds very fun.
I think it sounds like fun! I guess you gotta know your friends but I can see my friends going for it. I would not include condoms though maybe beef jerky, gum.
I think pinatas are considered boring just because everyone sits around while one person swings wildly. I also think it's much harder at an adult party because the "contestants" are so much taller - chandeliers and windows are at risk! It's very different when you have a bunch of little kids outside or in the basement where no damage can occur. Liquor and hand sanitizer are spill risks too.
I think you'd be better off with a grab bag thing or a trivia contest (if you're looking for an activity) that would let everyone have fun and actually do something besides watch someone else swing a bat. There are all kinds of games along the lines of Head's Up or "Who Am I?" type things that would create some mingling and ice-breaking (if people don't all know each other). If you've ever watched Hollywood Game Night or even The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, you'll see all kinds of different games you can use as is or adapt.
But I think your idea of fun little grab items is fine. Be careful with the condoms if there are some who would be offended (you don't necessarily know who has actually had an STD or who is battling infertility) but if you know your group, it could be fine.
If people are boozing it up, they will have a fun time doing it. Anyone who isn't into it an watch from afar!
Life is too short to not enjoy it.
Also, I'd skip the condoms and perhaps put in come chocolates.
My only concern would be the bottles breaking when the pinata was hit. Maybe wrap them in bubble wrap sleeves?
Just reading about this is fun! Do it!
If your friends are the kind that would like it then go for it!
I would skip the mini bottles of liquor though, those might break and you now have shards of glass to deal with.
