Hi everyone. I'm new to SC and am 7 months pregnant. The nearest hospital to me is PMC. The problem is that I've heard terrible things about it. The only other hospitals seem to be in the city and I would prefer to have the baby in the hospital that is only minutes from my house but I'm scared. Does anyone have any experiences with this hospital, good or bad, that you can tell me about?

Your honesty is appreciated.

What can I do next?

Hi C.,
I actually gave birth to my daughter at PMC (the Women's Center)it was a brand new facility at the time (December of 02) and they took care of me very well. If you have any doubts, go check out the facility (Women's Center) before your baby is due (Congratulations); you have every right too! As long as your OB doctor is up to par...you should be just fine...I think you've heard negative things about the ER department of the hospital...now that's another story. GOOD LUCK.

I am a first time mom of a one year old and I had to choose a hospital that was 45 mins. from my house because thats where my OBGYN delivers at. It worried me so much at first, the thought of not making it on time, but it was so worth it. I deliverd at the Huntersville (just north of the city) and they were absolutly wonderful (the OB is connected to the hospital). If you are not comfortable with the reputation of your hospital DONT USE THEM. If someting were to happen you would always wonder if going to another hospital would have eliminated the problem. You want quality care for your child. Having to drive a little farther for peace of mind will be worth it for both you and your child!

Hi! I would check out every hospital in your area (even those in the city) that your insurance covers. If you continue to hear not so good things about the hospital closest to you, DON'T go there. I would rather travel a little longer to get to a hospital that has a good reputation. It would be very rare if you needed to get to the hospital FAST when you go into labor. You will be surprised how much time you actually have. So if your drive is a little longer, so what? You'll be more calm, and have peace of mind. I went to birthing classes in GA with a girl who traveled an HOUR each way because her hosptial in her town had a bad reputation. By the way, we delievered our babies a day apart and she made it in plenty of time! Take the time to check them all out and sign up for birthing classes, they are the best thing you can do! Good luck!
