maybe try taking the camera & memory to a printshop? sometimes if I plug into a different usb port than usual, it doesnt recognize the hardware.

If you take the camera to a place where they print pics, they can usually put them on a disc too. Just ask them. Sorry I can't help with your computer. My husband does the picture stuff for me.

i would go to the guys at Your Local Computer Store off of 99. They are great and really helpful. If they can talk you through the solution they will, if not they are not expensive. I hope they are still there!!!

DO NOT HIT FORMAT!!
I had the same problem earlier this year. I listen to Kim Komando who is a computer whiz. I searched her site and found several programs to recover photos from my disk. This is the program I downloaded and it worked!!!
http://www.z-a-recovery.com/news.htm

The only problem was it restored every single photo I had deleted in the last year so I had to go through and delete those bad ones but was so glad to get the good ones back. And now I have them backed up on a jumpdrive!! And still able to use my disk. The only thing I did different was delete some random photos to make room for an event so I think that may have some how confused my disk!!
I was ready to pay $125 bucks for a company to do the same thing!!!

ummm...that sounds bad to me! can you see the photos on your camera itself? is it a new disc that wasn't formatted prior to use? or is it just being weird and glitchy? if the photos are on there, i'm sure there has to be a way to get them off. sometimes you have to go to professional places to get it, though. hopefully someone will have a better answer than me!

If you can still see the photos on your camera you are in good shape! If so I'd take them to somewhere that can do prints, even like Walgreens, Target, etc. You can make prints or you can even make them into a book or a collage all from sitting at the kiosk. The main problem is you have to sit at the kiosk. Not that convenient for a mom on the go, but at least it's doable, just probably don't take your kids with you if that's possible. Otherwise I'd say you'd have to call a computer repair service?? I don't know much about that computer technical stuff so I usually call a service! There are independent people and also chains like at Best Buy and Nerds on Call or something like that. Good luck!

Hi -- forgive a guy for answering a question... but it's a problem, and that's what we're good at!

DO NOT try to format the disk. Any photos that are there will almost surely be gone if you run a format.

Since you've got an error condition, STOP AND THINK before you do anything. I know that I am most likely to make serious mistakes when I am in a situation like this. If anything unexpected happens from here on out, stop and think TWICE before you do anything. Maybe even walk away for a while and do something else, then come back with a clear mind.

As for solutions --
1) Some cameras have two different places to store photos -- one on the removable card, another non-removable internal memory. It may be (particularly if this camera is relatively new) that you've been saving only to internal memory. If so, read your manual, and find out how to copy to the removable memory. Posting your camera manufacturer and model number (plus your computer operating system version) may help us to figure out if this is the case.

2) Did your camera come with a cable to attach it to your computer? If so, try using that. Make sure your camera batteries are fully charged. Attach the cable to camera and computer. Turn camera on. See if computer sees anything. Tell computer to copy the photos to a directory you can find later. :)

3) If you don't feel confident in resolving this issue -- and since you posted here, I think that might be the case -- it will give you the best chance to recover photos if you bring in some outside help. Take your camera to a camera store, tell them what is going on, and let them take a look at it. They will likely be able to tell you in two minutes if there are photos in the camera vs. on the memory card, and for little or no money be able to get them off the camera, or for a few dollars, copy them to a CD or DVD. (But you'll still need to know how to get them off yourself... after checking to see that all your photos are on the DVD, you can use the camera to format the memory card and see if that lets your computer read the card next time)

4) Maybe it's your computer. Try a different computer, or a different card slot, or buy/borrow an external USB-attach card reader and see if that lets you read it. (one of the benefits of going to a camera shop is that they can do all this in no time). Oh -- some printers have card slots; does your printer? If so, does it see photos?

5) There are programs that can attempt to recover data from corrupted memory cards. I have not used one myself, but I know they exist and that they work at least some of the time. You might try the free Pandora File Recovery from http://download.cnet.com/Pandora-Recovery/3000-2094_4-106...
Or, I think you're not too far from a Fry's Electronics, they'll have software you can buy to see what you can do.
NOTE!!!! Do NOT install the software to the memory card, install it as normal to your hard drive (with memory card out), then put the card into the computer and see if you can recover anything.

If you format the disc, it will wipe out all that is now on it. Don't do that until you know the pictures are saved to another place.
