I'm looking for some picnic food ideas/recipes. We are going to an adult summer concert series where they allow you to bring your dinner and I'm always so impressed with the food I see around us (while we eat vendor sandwiches!). We can bring a cooler. I'd love some inspiration and if you have recipes even better! tia.

finger food! get creative with sandwich ideas, fun fillings (cucumber and cream cheese, creamed deviled eggs) and different kinds of breads. chopped raw veggies and fruit with dips are always good. if you do wings or watermelon or other drippy foods, make sure you bring a thingie of wet wipes. but do as little as possible that involves cutlery.
have fun!

Our favorite is hummus and pita bread. add some cut up veges or a salad maybe some grilled sliced chicken on top. Dont forget the bottle of wine. Plastic wine glasses or juice mixed with seltzer if no alcohol allowed. Everyone will want to sit with you!! Such a nice romantic time of year.

We picnic a lot, but it's always sandwiches. Easy ones for me and my daughter, but my husband likes "gourmet" sandwiches...so I make them. You know, three kinds of meat, two kinds of cheeses, veggies, sauces, the works...and they transport just as easy. I also usually bring salads, fruits, cookies, chips, drinks, etc...

Also, disposable dishes. Heavy duty paper plates, paper cups, plastic utensils, etc...and then just throw it all away. So much easier than packing a bunch of dishes back up. :)

The easy route, and if you're bringing kids this makes for easy clean up too, make sandwiches in pita bread, bring fruits and veggies to munch on, anything that doesn't require packaging so you don't have to chase down the garbage when you're cleaning up.

If you're looking for something more than that, cold fried chicken and potato wedges, cole slaw, any kind of finger food appetizer you can eat cold. The downside is cleaning up the plates and utensils, but if you just throw the garbage back into the cooler, it's not a big deal.

Have fun!!

If you have a cooler:
Fried Chicken (bought at the store)
Potato salad
Chinese chicken salad w/the crunchy noodles (bought at store)
Cut carrots, celery sticks
Water
Wine or pre-made margaritas
Strawberry shortcake for dessert (mash the strawberries at home, take whipped cream and those shortcake rolls..hubby & I used to do this all the time)

We love this Chicken Caeser sandwich.

It says it takes an hour and a half, but we use grilled chicken breast or purchase a roasted chicken if we do not have leftover chicken already.

We love the dressing (one of the best ewe have ever had), but again, if you have a favorite bottled Caeser dressing, you could use that..

We also like Beef Tenderloin with horseradish dressing sandwiches.. Just make a beef tenderloin and cut slices..

Lettuce wrapped salads.. Gather a separate whole lettuce leaves..Place in a plastic bag.
Take your pasta, chicken, tuna, or corn salad in a container.. When ready to serve, place a spoonful or 2 of salad in the lettuce leaf, fold the leaf like a taco and eat!

We take cheese, crackers, olives, hummus, veggies and wine. Occasionally we make sandwiches ahead of time. We have also brought cold rice salad, tabouli (super easy, make in advance, lots of recipes - try Epicurious.com), cold grilled chicken skewers.
