Picky Eater - Southgate, MI

Does any one have suggestions for a picky eater? My daughter used to eat just about anything except peas. But now, for the past couple of weeks, she has only wanted dairy products and crackers or cereal. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get her to like fruits, veggies and meat (but not meat sticks) again? I keep offering them to her, but she won't even taste them. Help!

Thanks!!
L.

I would try making like a veggie pizza made of cheese, veggie, cream cheese, pizza crust. Kids tend to love the word Pizza. Another thing you could try is to make it into cool shapes... If these ideas don't work you could always try and sneek some into her food that she is eating and just start putting more and more if she doesn't notice.

I believe the body has a natural craving for foods that we especially need at certain times in our lives. If your daughter wants a lot of dairy, I would tend to think she needs extra calcium for her bones, teeth, etc. My son eats a lot most of the time, but sometimes he just stops growing for a while and stops eating a lot, and wants less meat. I think it's a phase and she will begin to accept the fruits and things again. Good luck!

Hi L.
I know it can be fustrating, but this age goes through stages like this.
My advice is to not make a big deal about it. And cont. to offer the fruits and veggies, in small quantities. She will eventually eat them again. (Sometimes we crave what our bodies are deficient in. Maybe your daughter is getting ready for a growth spirt and her bones need extra calcium)
As far as the meat sticks?! AAAUUUGGG!! Have you ever tried one of those? They are disgusting. I wouldnt eat them either. In that case, I would cut up the same meat that you are eating , in teeny tiny toddler size bites and offer that to your daughter. Best of luck to you. Heidi

To get her fruit in, try making smoothies. Just milk and fruit, and I guess some ice. That way she is not getting added sugar, and my kids live for smoothies, and they are picky eaters. I have to call broc., trees to get them to eat them. Good luck. I know she is still quite young to make scenes with the food (like trees, or make raisins bugs), I hope you find something that works.

Hi L.~
It seems like my little one did the same thing when he was about that age. I just kept at it, trying to give him what I knew he liked so he didn't get used to me catering to his whims. Happily, he outgrew the picky stage and loves all the foods he used to again. It was tricky, though, trying to find a good mix of what I knew he liked and what I knew he would eat. There was a period where I swear he would eat only black olives!! You'll get your good little eater back, I'm sure of it! Good luck
