V.M.
just wanted to say i am picky to and i hear you on the social stuff whewie.
great question.
First off, here's a little background info on me: I am a very picky eater. I have been picky my entire life, and while I try new foods all the time, I still tend to not like them. My entire life, I have had very heightened senses (sounds, smells, tastes, the feel of things on my hands, etc.). I have spent a majority of my life feeling very awkward in any social situation involving food, as people tend to get offended when others do not want their food. I have found ways of coping that help somewhat, and I have accepted the fact that I will never truly be comfortable in these types of situations. **I'm also doing whatever I can to encourage my children to NOT be picky! :)
So, here's the deal: I know that I am probably not getting all of the vitamins that I should be getting from my food. I'm probably no where close to meeting those needs! I eat a lot of dairy food, some fruits, fewer meats (generally ground beef is about it), NO fish, practically NO veggies (maybe corn, green beans, and potatoes on rare occasions); I do like white bread (but not wheat bread) and some pastas (with a marinara sauce), and I can pick out ingredients in foods that other people have NO idea were even there (goes back to my problem with heightened sense of taste and smell). Do I sound like your picky 3 yr old? =)
I have been taking a prenatal vitamin (I am NOT pregnant and stopped nursing my daughter about a month ago). I am really wanting some suggestions on what other types of vitamins I should consider to help my body get the nutrients it needs. I am currently 28 years old and have hypothyroidism (controlled with levothyroxine). Do you have any suggestions of what I should be taking and what that particular vitamin is important for?
Thanks a bunch!
~A.
Thanks for the advice/tips, everyone! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one out there who is so picky. I truly wish I weren't.
I'll stop the prenatal vitamins and look into the suggestions you provided.
Thanks again!

Shaklee has done a tremendous amount of research, not only on supplements, but also what most people are missing. They have put together a strip that contains a multivitamin, sustained release B + C, carotonoid, optiflora, vita E, and omegas. If you are interested, I can send you a website where you can read the labels and get that extra information you want.
I was on prenatal vitamins too and it's been about a year since I finished nursing my twins. My doctor told me not to take prenatal vitamins anymore because it has more iron than a non-pregnant/nursing woman needs. I haven't found a vitamin yet for myself, so I can't recommend one. But I wanted to tell you that you might want to at least stop the prenatal vitamins while you're looking for a daily vitamin. Also, you actually just described my husband as far as eating preferences. : )
Shaklee is supposed to have the 'gold standard' for multi-vitamins. Better than a prenatal! Try that as a supplement.
A good multivitamin from whole food sources that contains calcium AND magnesium) If you are still having periods you need iron in there too...............and a "good fats" pill, something with omega 3's 6's and 9"s and a good amount of mono-saturated fats. During the cold season you wanna amp up the vitamin c a bit. Thats for starters.
Dont take prenatal vitmains, although they arent harmful they are designed specifically for pregnant women, like they have more iron and folate, and less zinc and vitamin a than your average multi....for good reasons.
if you have symptoms, or desired goals for your well being( like more alkalinity, less hunger, no varicose veins, more relaxation, less relaxation, happier moods, more clarity of thinking, better eyesight...etc...) then there are other recommendations. Also if you have a family history of things (cancer, heart disease, diabetes, alzheimers...etc..)specific vitamins/supplements can be preventative.
But none of these are "catch all" for everyone...its a case by case basis. most people would benefit from what was mentioned in my first paragraph.
