Photobook...what To Do

I do yearly books of the things that happen with the family. I do a page a month for my kids. I also love doing really special birthday parties too. For example, my daughter had a big Princess party and so I did a book for that.

We have a family photo album done through either kodakgallery.com or snapfish every year (snapfish has really good deals though: a few times a year they'll do that buy 1 book, get 2 books free thing and that's what I do: make a few books, and when that sale hits my email, I buy them. It's like $7 shipping for each, but that's ok). I've made one that I titled "The ABC's of Daddy" where we made the book all about my husband and had photos of him since he became a father to that present day, using all the letters of the alphabet. The first page had a picture of my infant son in his bumbo seat and my 3 year old in his Pooh chair holding an alphabet chart and pointing at the camera. The 3 year old was learning his ABC's and everything revolved around the alphabet, so I wrote a little introduction to the book saying something about that, and said that to remember where we are "this Father's Day", this book is on the ABC's of YOU!" The next page was all text: an interview with our 3 year old, questions about my husband and I typed the answers exactly as he answered. Then the following pages were like A is for trips Abroad (a photo of us in England), the Dallas Aquarium (a neat shot of them looking at a shark), love that is Absolute (a photo of us on a date), etc. Just so you know, it's MUCH easier to find words for pictures you have than trying to figure out words and then find pictures to match the words in your head. Yipes! Q and X were hard but we found 'em. :) That book made him all choked up, which was cool.
We do a family album just titled "Family Memories 2011" or whatever. We start with New Year's Day and then just go through with what was notable that year. We did some collages so we could fit more pics into fewer pages so we could really see how the boys grew up over the year.
In September, Snapfish had a buy 1 get 2 free sale and I used that to make a book titled "I Wanna Be A Cowboy" for my oldest son's birthday: Western themed pages and his final year in Texas (the Stockyards, Downtown, the rodeo, riding horses, riding the mechanical bull, hanging out with some cowboys, watching a cattle drive, stuff with family AND friends)---he loves that book so much. I used the "2 free" to make photo albums for the grandmas (my mom and my mil).
I like the idea of a "hobby or interests" book, or a family type photo album for each child to have their own.

I had a photobook coupon recently. The day it expired, I realized the deadline at 7:30pm. Busted my butt trying to fill that danged book. Lost the entire book (somehow), had to start over....& then realized I didn't have any pics of my cousin's family.....so had to "borrow" some from FB.

Not my best night. I finished the stupid book at 11:45....just 15 minutes to spare! The book was delivered today.....it's beautiful & I am so happy/proud to give it to my Gma for her 91st BD this wkend!

& yes, I've apologized to my cousins for stealing photos without permission. :)

& now on to your question: simplest solution - one book for each child. Or a Christmas Book, A School Year Book, etc.

My book was titled, "My Family"....done in 1st person, told by my Gma.

I've done birthday parties, Holiday books (Thanksgiving, Christmas), different seasons (like Spring--easter, spring break trips or Fall--leaves on the ground, first day of school, halloween or Winter--playing in snow, ski trips, etc or Summer--family reunions, BBQs, zoo trips, water play, etc).

I also made my husband a "Daddy and Me" book that I gave him for Father's Day that had pictures of him and our older daughter (younger one wasn't born yet) with captions underneath telling a story. He loved that book and got teary-eyed. :0)

I just got my 2011 photo book. It was the 2nd year that I decided to make one big book (40 pages) for the whole year. I just put my favorite pictures in it from each month. It turned out really great. I've done a few smaller ones too... a 1st birthday album, Godson's 1st Communion album, etc.

We used to do a photobook for every year - January to New Year's Eve. We tried to put the pictures relatively in order, and added captions with locations or special memories from particular events. The kids love looking at them, and we send copies to the grandparents as well.

We've been so busy for the past couple years we haven't done them and totally regret it since all of our pics are digital.

I am a photobook convert from scrapbooking, love them! I am doing 1-2 family photobooks for each year; one for each of my kids' first communions, one for each big vacation trip, and an ABC book for my son's 3rd birthday in which the people/pets/things in his life represent the letters of the alphabet. My sister and I also did a book for our parents' 40th wedding anniversary, chronicling the years of their marriage. Have fun!

We do a yearly "birthday book" for our daughter, which is comprised of our family photos and captions from each year. Our daughter looks forward to it every year and I also purchase a copy for my husband and I, so that she can keep hers when she's an adult.

You have lots of great answers already! I'm actually glad I saw this question- gives me some ideas too! My daughter recently got a scrapbook kit as a present- it is "Best Friends" themed- so we are going to use pictures of all her friends in various settings (school, church, sports, cousins, etc.)- so maybe one of them and their year of various friends?

Family History. Scan and add photos of your line of relatives. Make an ancestry book/Family tree.

Vacations.

Make for grandparents instead of yourself.

I also made books for each child with their friends and extra curricular from pre-school through HS graduation. They love these books.
