Hi -
In the process of buying a house in Orange, CA and have 2 questions for you.
First of all- phone service? Who do you use, and cost wise, how great/bad is it? I am thinking of getting 911 only service, and then use cell phones?
Also, my AAA office just quoted me a hilarous amount today for insuring the house that was just out of this world.
What companies do you use, and what do you pay yearly? Just want to get a ball park figure to see if it's worth shopping around.
AAA quoted me 2700/year for a 2-story 4 bedroom house, and I was SURE I had heard the guy wrong.
Gotta nail this down in the next day or two, so if you guys know something that I don't - HELP!

that price does not seem over the top for the area. Do you get car ins. thorugh AAA? did that include a multiline discount if yes? We have auto and home through State Farm and we get a very big discount because we have both.
That quote from AAA seems high to me...we're searching for insurance right now too, and we just got a quote from AAA for $1200-$1400 for a 3 BR, 2400sf home in South OC. (We also have auto with them) Maybe something got entered in the computer wrong. I've also heard good things about First American Specialty, and their prices are good as well.
I'm an insurance agent in AZ and AAA has the best rates out here lately. Your home insurance is based on many factors. I just quoted a guy that had a phoenix address and the home was built in 2004. The quote was $1400, it was the lowest, everyone else was higher. I told him I didn't know why it would be so high because its a newer home (older ones are more) and he said "well, it is in a high crime area". There you have it. Its based on the home info as well as the zip code, credit rate and value of the home. So just shop around and see if you can get it for less. You can also call AAA and ask them why its so high, they will be able to tell you. Good luck.
