I 2nd the military donation

In my quest to purge stuff from our lives in the new year, I stumbled upon a bunch of phone cards (you know, the ones that allow people to call long distance and/or sometimes internationally) that I had in a box. I know they weren't cheap and wondered if there would be a good place I could donate them to. I was thinking originally that domestic violence shelters might be able to use them, but do people even have uses for them nowadays? Are there other places that might be able to use them??
thanks for your responses.
Great responses! I am going to send them to the military so they can call home, too! Thanks so much!

The military has some kind of program for phone cards. I'm not sure how it works but you could probably do a search for it. They collect them for people in the military to call home to their families.
Yes...people still use calling cards.
I don't have a cell phone so I always get one when I travel so that I can check in along the way. I went to an out of state family reunion and used a calling card to avoid charges on the hotel bill. It worked great.
I like the idea of donating them to a women's shelter or for the military. Another idea is contacting the social worker at assisted living facilities. Many elderly people have no means of making long distance calls. My aunt is in such a place and she has a "guardian" who oversees her finances. She is not given money to contact anyone. I always call her and never thought much of it, but she wanted to call me on my birthday and couldn't.
I'm going to send her a card so she can call me when she wants.
I'm sure you'll find someone who will be very happy to use the cards.
Best wishes!
Well, I could send you my address...we use them all the time! HAHA!
We don't use them for national calls but international calls. My husband's family is still mostly in Mexico and we can call with cards a whole lot cheaper than calling with the regular phone.
I would think that shelters could use them just because they probably have a phone that all the people there can use, but it just makes local calls (at least, that's what the "mother's house" had when I lived in one.) Off the top of my head I can't think of any other place. Maybe if you are involved in a church you could ask them if they know of any members that may be struggling and could benefit from them.
Good Luck
