Do you let your kids watch Phineas & Ferb? My son's 5 year old friend was wearing a P&F t-shirt and I asked the Mom who the characters were and she was surprised that my 4 y/o wasn't into the cartoon. I told her he doesn't watch much t.v. When he does all he wants is Curious George or WordWorld so I record the cartoons so when we can we watch them.
She said I should check it out that it's agreat cartoon for kids.
After reading all your posts I HAD to check it out! Especially after I received a message from a Mom telling me about the title song. That alone piqued my interest because the song is very catchy. ssssooooo I recorded an episode from last night = Ultimate Lemonade stand and watched it. O.K. I have to admit - totally funny!!! It's so cool how all of you that explained the show actually made it even better!! I was like oh yeah someone said the project "disappears at the end of the show"! LOL!!!!
Anyhow not sure my son will like it because he is incredibly devoted to curious george (LOL!!) but honestly I didn't find anything wrong with the show. That's just my opinion! =-)
Thanks ALL!!!!

I am not a huge fan of most kids TV but found P&F to be quite charming. The family is made up of a 2nd marriage dad & mom and their kids...Who don't refer to each other with any "steps". The kids display caring, creativity and general kid-ness in every episode.

It's a fine show for a 4 year old! I monitor my son's viewing habits closely, but Phineas and Ferb are pretty cool! I cannot imagine what kind of inappropriate humor people are referring to, and I would love it if they would give examples. I've never seen or heard anything remotely inappropriate on it. My 4.5 year old loves it!

It's good!
Phineas and Ferb are 2 really smart boys who make outrageous creations in their backyard...like a huge water slide, stuff that is impossible to build in just a day and impossible for kids to build but they do it...and they have an older sister named Candice who always tries to "catch them" and show the mom all the stuff that they are doing...but something always happens right before the mom sees it and the mom always accuses Candice of being silly...it always ends with the mom saying to the kids "you feel like a snack"...it's hilarious! The theme song is really good too!

We love Phineas and Ferb! My daughter, myself and my husband watch it. It is totally funny. My daughter loves to sing the songs and laughs at the characters and she is 2 1/2. She has a tee shirt and I put the songs from the show on her ipod so that she can listen to them when she wants. Great show!!!
I am just wondering how people find this inappropriate? It's a cartoon. Let me ask these people one question..... Was it inappropriate for you to watch Bugs Bunny being chased by Elmer Fudd with a shot gun? So you think that Candice has a bad attitude. She is only trying to bust her brothers for the crazy things that they build. She is your typical teenager. But I see P&F as using their imaginations and getting outside and doing things other then sitting in front of the computer or playing video games all day. It tells kids to get outside and get creative.

we LOVE P&F. My kids are 5 and 8
They are two boys that use their imaginations to build the most awesome inventions every day of the summer. They don't sit and watch tv or play video games all day they actually DO something.
They actually have shorts between the shows of real kids building chain reaction machines ( can't remember the name of the guy they are named after) .
The Older sister is a teenager but does not dress and act like teenagers today she's very conservative. They are a mixed family , brother and sister and mom and step brother and step dad ( from england).
the musical numbers are really great and sound like real songs, like produced put out on a CD not used for a show. The show does have a CD out of the songs they are a lot of fun.
The whole message for the show is you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

I allow my 3 and 4 year old to watch it. But as most of us moms do, we limit how long we watch tv. My kids much rather be outside playing.

My 4-year old daughter and I watch it together all the time. The characters have a lot of creativity and adventures, and the relationship between young brothers and teenage sister is pretty realistic. Basically the developers take real life personalities and idiosyncracies and make them bigger. The "bad guy" Doofenschmirtz is pretty funny and insecure about himself and his relationship with Perry the Platypus (who is actually a secret agent), so it is pretty entertaining for adults as well.
Its more fast-paced than Curious George and Word World (which we also watch). I've never heard an inappropriate reference or innuendo. And the musical numbers have some punch.

My 8 yo watches it. I actually like it too. And, recently my husband has started watching it and I'll hear him actually laugh out loud. It's got some really funny lines. Many over the kids head, but not inappropriate.
The brothers are creative and genius. The daughter is always trying to bust the boys, that cracks me up. The mom & dad are a little oblivious. And, I love Perry the Platypus - secret agent. So funny.
Maybe not educational, if that what's you prefer, but not inappropriate and actually pretty funny.

My son is 3 and he absolutely loves Phineas & Ferb, he also watches Curious George and WordWorld nothing else, and I watch it too. I must be either too ignorant or too naive, because I have never ever found inappropriate humor, quite on the contrary, I love it how they create this outrageous things, and before they can get "busted" they suddenly disappears, and it always is all in good fun. The things my son mimics from the show are dancing the songs, there's always one song, and he builds things with his blocks and then collapses whatever he built and signs "Go Candace, go, go Candace". I think I'm pretty strict into what my son watches and uses, and I don't find it inappropriate at all. Having said that I do advice you watch it, you and only you know what you want your children to watch and only you can decide what's appropriate for them. I really hope you like it. Good Luck!!!

The kids are creative and smart making things like time machines, robots all before there mom gets home. It isn't wordworld, but at 5 it might be time to get past Curious George. Watch it first to see watch you think. I wouldn't have him stop educational shows, it might be one to add once in awhile.

I'm pretty much the ultimate fuddy-duddy when it comes to the shows my kids watch, but I LOVE P&F and find nothing objectionable about it. It is pure genius and, like so many Disney productions, communicates to so many different age groups. My 3.5 year old watches that, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Curious George, Word World, and a few other programs, but he loves Mickey and P&F the most. If he's not already watching it, there's not really any hurry to start him on it now, but if he starts asking about it, I don't think you'd have any reason to be concerned.

My daughter is 3 and has watched Phineas and Ferb because they end up being part of the line-up of shows on Disney that are more geared toward pre-schoolers (Handy Manny, Mickey Mouse, etc.) We limit her TV watching too and she does watch shows on PBS and Nick Jr. as well. Personally I think P & F is pretty hilarious. The "bad guy evil genius mad scientist" character on there cracks me up. It's not really geared toward pre-schoolers but there's nothing really inappropriate going on either - just a lot of humor that is over my daughter's head right now. It's not as "educational" as some shows but it does feature the 2 boys getting creative with their projects in the backyard. For a while in the summer there would be 4 episodes on in a row in the morning and I thought that was a bit much. The only thing I did not care for is when the older sister Candace starts screaming and keeps on screaming repeatedly - the noise gets on my nerves. Like some other moms on here, I think it's better than Sponge Bob. I've also known moms to let their daughters of all ages under 12 watch Hanna Montana and similar and I don't really like those shows at all. It's better than that.
Many parents are worried about what kind of influence TV shows can be on their kids. When I was a kid, we watched Bugs Bunny cartoons, including the coyote trying to catch the road runner, utilizing dynamite, etc. or falling off a cliff or crushed by a rock but being back to normal the very next scene. Or Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd shooting guns and trying to blow Bugs and Daffy away. My parents were forever reminding us that they were cartoons and in real life, such things would get us hurt or killed. I think they were worried we would try to imitate what they were doing, but honestly, we were way smarter than they were giving us credit for. We knew better. It really comes down to sometimes being aware of what they are watching and talking to them about it and possibly limiting their exposure to a particular show if they start displaying inappropriate behavior. At 3 and 4 years old my husband and is then-wife were letting their boys watch Star Wars. I don't agree with that at all but just saying there are way worse things on TV than Phineas and Ferb. The boys are now 16 and 17 and they are fine.
If you are happy with what your son is watching now and want to keep it that way, I completely understand, but I would check it out for yourself a few times and see what you think.

I son just loves the sounds of the voices and it comes on right after the shows he watches so we sing the intro and then move on. Hope this helps! Hi. My daughters watch it quite a bit. Since my son (28 mos.) is also in the same room as the girls, he watches it as well. I personally love it. It's quite witty, imaginative and musical. Basically, it's two boys who have a WILD imagination, and actually create things/time travel, etc... during Summer vaction. The sister is always trying to get the mom to see what they are doing, but it never pans out. Then there's "Perry the Platypus" who doesn't talk, but he's a secret agent who's always thwarting the plans of the self-proclaimed evil inventor. It's really a cute cartoon, for today's standards.
However, if your son is happy with Curious George (as is my son) and Wordworld, then by all means, don't throw in other ones. I also like the fact that you record them so you have control of when he watches and how much!

Absolutely!!! Phineus and Ferb is the best cartoon on TV. The use their minds, the are non judgmental, they find good in everything, the show is so good everyone in my house stops to watch it when it comes on.
Perry is just an addition to the story line to resolve what to do with their inventions and Dr. D is often real and funny himself.
As for watching only educational TV shows, I have nothing against them, I enjoy watching Martha Speaks, Word World, Word Girl, etc...but to be honest, if I could only watch educational TV shows I think I'd hate it. Life doesn't have to be constantly educational. Sometimes we just want to have a good laugh and have something silly take our mind away to somewhere else.
++++++++++++++++++++++
Just another thought, anyone else have to stop using the preview guide to see what's one due to "R" rated movies playing on the top half of the screen? Or inappropriate TV shows? I find this more disgusting than just about anything on TV.

Ok, the cartoon is funny, but I also have a 10 year old son almost 11. At the age of 4, I would not have let him watch it. My son was into Blue's Clues, Little Bear, and Sesame Street at the age of 4. I have allowed certain shows as he has aged. It is your disgression. You need to view the shows first then choose to let him watch them or not. Fairly Odd Parents were banned from our home for the longest time. I just felt it was a horrible cartoon. I would watch the shows with him and we would deem together if there were good things or bad things in it. He was usually alright with the choices that were made. He doesn't get a lot of TV time since he is so busy and loves to play outside (instead of watching tv or playing video games, thank goodness). Just view them for yourself and see if you deem it worthy of your son's TV time.
Hope this is helpful!

It is actually a pretty cool cartoon that I let my kids watch. To me it is major annoying but there is no violence as far as I am concerned. P&F are stretching out their summer by doing totally off the wall stuff with ordinary items. A rollar coaster through town, a beach in the backyard. And their mom NEVER sees any of it. All while bugging their older sis. Some of the previews for new shows on Disney means this might be the only show I let them watch once Hannah and Wizards is gone.

My daughter is 7..... she watches it. Sometimes... but she STILL watches Curious George too, or the other 'kiddie' shows... her classmates say these are "baby" shows... but she does not care. She tells them SHE likes these shows.
We 'taught' her all about teen shows... which are what many of her classmates watches... she can "discern' what shows are appropriate for her or not. Because we taught her that.
Many of her classmates, watches Hannah Montana too... which to me, is not for my 7 year old girl. AND her Teachers, feel the same way.
Phineas and Ferb is funny.... and sometimes irritating (their voices)... but oh well. My 4 year old son watches it sometimes, if his sister is.
all the best,

Phineas and Ferb is AWESOME! I watch it all the time with my 8 year old son. We've been watching 2 or 3 years now. It's on Disney Channel between the teenager shows so you may want to record it so your son doesn't have to watch Hannah Montana at 4. It is great for little kids but it also has a lot of "adult" humor - not dirty adult humor. It's sort of like Bugs Bunny or the Flintstones where the kids like it but some of the references only adults would get. Phineas and Ferb are step brothers who spend their summer vacation coming up with ideas for "what to do today". They're very smart and they build rockets and rollercoasters and their older sister is always trying to "bust them". And they have a pet platypus that's a secret agent. It's hysterical but there is nothing inappropriate for little kids. I know lots of adults who watch this too. It's really well done. When my son was 4 we started watching Power Rangers because that's what the other kids in pre-K were watching - this is much better!
Hope this helps! Check it out!

Yes, I let my 2 year old watch P&F, probably because my hubby and I enjoy the show, too. He may like it. Aside from P&F, all my daughter ever wants to watch is Curious George, WordWorld, or those Leapfrog DVD's. She was never into the rest of Playhouse Disney, Baby Einstein, Sesame Street, etc. I like that it's a very clean show with minimal violence and it seems to help fire her imagination. In fact, that's the only non-educationial show I let her watch. We love the music.
As far as other responders, what "inappropriate behaviors" are you talking about? Candice is whiny and Buford's a bully, but that's kind of the point, that you don't want to be like them.

My younger DD also still loves Curious George, Word Girl, and Zaboomafoo, but my older daughter is outgrowing those shows, and finding other interests since we don't have any other "good" channels. I'm glad you decided to give the show a chance; my 15 yr old wanted to share it with us and I was hesitant as well, we don't subscribe to cable and only rent or buy DVD, and we're very careful what we watch with our 2 yr old. I found a Phineas and Ferb DVD at Blockbuster and it looked really.... not what we usually watch. I gave in though, and I'm glad I did. The stories and humour are appropriate for the kids, with enough interesting and funny moments for grown-ups to help them remember what it's like to be a kid in summer. Not that I want my kids to know, but .. <.<....>.> (making sure no kids are listening)... I actually have several P+F songs hiding in my Zune playlist, next to They Might Be Giants' "9 Bowls of Soup" from Here Come the 123's and Kermit the Frog singing "The Rainbow Connection".

You've gotten a TON of answers, and I've never watched the cartoon, but I recently found this website: www.commonsensemedia.org and it rates kids movies, books, apps, games, music and TV programming. Gives guidelines regarding appropriate ages, what's in the content, parental reviews, synopsis, etc. I love it and I do consult it whenever my 5-year-old is interested in a new movie, etc.
I haven't seen any harm in it, my older kids like it. If I had my choice I wouldn't let my kids watch it though. There is absolutely no educational value. For the younger ones especially I prefer shows that promote learning and good behavior as opposed to mindless T.V. I wouldn't introduce my 4 year old to it if I were you.

I like the cartoon. My 6 year old watches it and honestly, its better than a lot of the new non-educational cartoons out there on the tv. P&F is a cartoon about a boy with his adopted brother figure out what they will do that day because they are bored on their summer vacation. They have really funny unrealistic adventures with their friend Isabella and their pet Platapus is a secret spy out to stop an evil villan. Its funny because its as if you are watching 2 cartoons in one but they end up conjoining together in the end. All the while their older sister is rtying to tattle on them to their mother. Its on right after all the preschool cartoons are over on the Disney Channel. Watch it for yourself and decide. I hate most of the cartoons on Cartoon Network. Definetly not for my boy. :)

I think it's fine for older kids, but I just don't think kids preschool age or younger get anything out of it. They shouldn't be watching much TV anyway at that age and if they do they should be learning something from it. It is my 3 year old nephew's favorite TV show, but I just think he would get a lot more from Super Y or another entertaining yet educational show. Just my opinion. At 3, my kids were watching Blue's Clues and Dora or Diego or Sesame Street. I understand they are not the most entertaining shows for parents, but kids learn valuable things from them that will help them in elementary school. Again there is nothing wrong with Phineas and Ferb, but it is not necessarliy beneficial to young children either.

I know as busy moms the LAST thing we want to do is sit down & watch a kids cartoon.. LoL But when my kids want to watch a new show I'm not sure about, I record 2 or 3 of them & watch 15 Min. of each eppisode when I get a chance & decide for myself rather than going off my friends opinions, even those opinions I trust most, only because what they find appropriate & vise versa are going to be different. For instance My sister is very conservative & watches her childrens entertainment closely & has been known to kinda be the enforcer/person you hide PG-13 movies from in the fam, LoL but she let her kids watch Sponge Bob & I ill not let my kids.. So I learn the best opinion to trust when it comes to those things, is that of my own...
Otherwise to answer the question I can't stand that show personally, I find it rather annoying & empty? Can't think of the right word... But I have let my kids watch a couple of the episodes & didn't find them inapropriate or anything.. They don't catch them too often as we put a limit on ammount of tv watched & what type of Tv watched, most often educational/uplifting/ non endulgent/waste of time shows, LoL Not too many of the at the end leaving them zombie/dead headish what good did that half hour/hour of time do type shows.. but we do allow for a tiny tiny fraction of those every once in a while when someone wakes up 2 early & wired at 5:00 Am there's nothing much else on, I don't want any one else to wakeup, & mommy desperatly needs dead quiet for 2 more hours if she can't be sleeping right now.. ((Guilty)) LoL.

My 3 year old will watch it if his brother has it on. They each get to pick one show to watch but usually my oldest will pick something on discovery and my youngest loves Olivia right now. My opinion is there are better more educational shows out there but for a fun one its good.

I don't like it either. It isn't bad but I have to agree with Darien about the teen age sister. She just has a bad attitude. Unlike Curious Gorge and WordWorld I don't think there is a chance that your son is going to learn anything from P&F, well other than how to cop an attitude.

I haven't read the other posts and I'll probably be in the minority. But I think it is inappropriate for a four year old to watch. Like so many of the cartoons on cable it has inappropriate humor. Granted the kids don't understand the humor (I'm sure it's for the parents) there is no need for them to watch it.
Like your son, my girls watch Curious George, Super Why, Martha Speaks... They don't necessarily watch these shows because they are "educational" they watch them because they are appropriate. It is my job, afterall, to educate them through experiences not tv. My girls watch 30 minutes of tv a day (if that).
If you are really that curious record an episode and watch it for yourself. All that really matters is if it is appropriate for your family and only you can be the judge of that.

Hate it! I think it is more than stupid. My kids are 9 & 12 so I am not worried about the content, I just think it is ridiculous, not even funny. My husband loves it and thinks it is hilarious. I often find my husband and both of my sons watching it :(

I don't like letting my 3 year old watch the show. Its much like what many of us parents watched as children, IMO there are better choices out there for younger children these days.

I have a 3 year old and P+F isn't an option in our household. He watches Curious George, YoGabbaGabba, Agent Oso or Mr. Rogers - all these shows are DVR'd and he only watches Oso live when he's snuggling in bed with us at 6:30am. He's also a huge Cars/Toy Story fan but he'll watch for 20-30 mins and be done with it. I don't think P+F is appropriate for kids under 10 but that's my opinion. My 2¢ is your current viewing schedule sounds appropriate for your child - only you can determine that though. Hope this helps!

I think the "we don't watch much tv" attitude works fine. There will be way too much multimedia opportunity as he grows. He does not need you introducing him to any thing else like that.

I hate it. I'm into educational stuff. My son does Mickey Mouse and Manny on Disney channel which I record a few shows and Sprout. It's what used to be NickJr I think but not sure. Nickelodeon isn't something we watch. I think fart jokes and disrespecting your parents, and making fun of other kids is not something I want my little guy to watch. I'm sure it's prude. I grew up watching Tom and Jerry beat each other to a pulp day after day and have never been in a fight myself so I'm sure I'm just uptight.
