Hey ladies,

Leave it to me to be the one person to ask a question on here that no one can answer!lol! Since no one had any tips for my question before...has anyone tried the Peter Potty? I've seen them in catalogs like One Step Ahead, etc, and they are currently "on sale" on the cotton babies website. I'm considering one for my 3 & 1/2 year old son. If anyone has used them for their kids, how do you like it? Do they really make things better for little boys?
Thanks for any replies!

*Note: He is potty-trained and he uses our regular toilet...it's his aim that I'm having trouble with. The last few months, he has quit taking the time to watch what he's doing when he goes to potty...see my other request from last week for more info...
Thanks for all the replies so far!

What can I do next?

When my son was potty training, I colored water blue and red with food coloring and then froze it in ice trays. After they were frozen I would store them in a ziploc freezer bag (in the freezer). Anytime he would need to go, he would ask for a cube. He had great time aiming for the cube and seeing what color the water would change to.

I've already seen it suggested but Cheerios would work well too. We have also used the biodegradable packaging peanuts that dissolve in water.

Good luck,
J.

I can answer this!! I got the Peter Potty for my now two year old nephew when he was 22 months old. My sister reports that he started using it the day he got it and has been loving it ever since. My brother-in-law has had to do some work with the aiming, but that's it. The only part this didn't help with was pooping in the potty as that is a differnt concept for boys - sitting vs. standing. My nephew is now 26 months old and has been consistently dry with very few accidents. One thing to keep in mind, no matter what tools you use, if the child isn't ready to potty train, nothing will work. I found that out the hard way with my child.

I dont know your original request, but something you could do is drop a few cheerios in the potty and have him aim at them when he pees.

It's sure cute, but you can do without, that's for sure. I trained my son to sit on the potty and go, and when it came to urinal training I left that up to my husband. I think it may also depend on how stury the thing it (can it be easily tipped over) and how good your son's aim is.

Thanks for the question. I have never seen this before. My son will be trying 3 on Sunday and he seemd to have no interest in going to the potty hopefully this will help him and he can go like daddy.

I haven't used the Peter potty.....but I have to say it was much easier training my ds to go standing up "like daddy". If your only reason for getting it is because of aim you will still need to get him to aim properly in a regular potty. My ds has been trained since 18 mos and he is going to be 6 soon...if he is distracted he still misses! The cheerios are a good idea, my sister did this with her ds and it worked great for her. I just have my son clean up his mess....since he thinks this is gross it really encourages him to aim straight!

Hi R.!
I was just looking at your previous question to see what it was no one had an answer to. (I'm thinking that for some reason people didn't see the question because I'd say it is very unusual to get so few responses on any topic! I don't remember seeing your question in the daily digest, but I could be wrong.) Anyway, I have a suggestion for your original question although my son is not potty trained yet! I have heard moms suggest throwing some cheerios in the toilet to give him something to aim at. Kind of funny (and hope you have no kids around who would want to go after them!) Best of luck!

Hi R.

I used the Peter Pottie with a lot of success with my son. He was using it by the time he was 2.5 as long as he was naked and didn't have to pull down his pants :) So lucky for us it was summer and he just ran around in his underwear. He loved it! Here is a word of warning. If you fill the rinser part full you son will quickly learn he can push it any time he wants to see the water...then in turn, the part that catches the urine and water will overflow making a mess on your floor. Yes, I speak from experience. I would recommend then to anyone potting training a boy. Mine son did not like sitting on the potty or the little potty so training him to poop was a little harder. Good Luck to you.

R. S,
I have actually heard that you can put cheerios in the toilet and tell him to aim for those.... they don't clog up the toilet if you put in 5 or so and it is a "fun" thing for him to try. It is a thought. I don't know if that will help you any, but it never hurts to try it. Of course it might be odd if he is still 15 and grabbing cheerios while heading to the bathroom... ha ha! Good luck!

It seems to me to be an unnecessary waste of money & effort. And it will one day be in a landfill!

He will be doing most of his peeing into a toilet anyway. If you are out with him (say at the grocery store) you wont be sending him to the men's room alone, right? He'll go with you to the ladies room & use a toilet.

Do you have an "open door" policy in your house? Does your son see you and your husband using the toilet? That seemed to work for us.

Also, I took each child shopping to choose their very own underpants. They knew the underpants they picked out themselves were waiting for them when they were ready.

If you think it will work, go for it. But it seems gimmicky and unnecessary.

He'll get there!

I don't have any experience with this in particular, but I do find that I regret the money spent on most such things. My boys both stand up to use the potty (#1) (the younger one has been trained since 27 months).

if you are talking about the urinal... well thats the cutest thing i have ever seen lol. however i know in potty training boys in preschool it was so much easier when they would sit down. but if you are talking about the potties with the little cups on the front i think that is a great way to go and you can get them at any store that sells potties... good luck!
