DPT protects kids against some pretty serious stuff. Is there a reason you would not want them protected for diphtheria or tetanus?
Does anyone know if you can get your baby only the pertussis vaccine without the diptheria and tetanus?
Someone asked why I would not want diptheria or tetanus. Diptheria is literally gone... only about 5 cases a year... and many years go by without any reported cases at all. For now, I am just delaying it until he is older. As for tetanus, it is not an infant disease, so for me there is no reason to give it to my child. There are only 50-100 cases of it in the US and all of them occur in adults over 25. I'm only going to be giving him the vaccinations he needs at the times he needs them. :) For now, I will wait until at least 2 years of age to give him any vaccinations at all. I'll support his immune system with multivitamins, extra vitamin D, C and A as well as some probiotics.

I believe the only options at this time are the DT (diptheria-tetanus) and the DTaP (diptheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis). The DTP was withdrawn due to a higher complication rates and is no longer available. As far as I know, the pertussis component is not available separately.
Please be aware that the pertussis vaccine has one of the highest failure rates of all the vaccines (up to 30% failure to offer complete immunity). This is not an argument against the vaccine, just a warning to be aware of it's limitations.
Anyone who has a wet cough, worse at night, that lasts for more than a week without sign of improvement should be tested for pertussis. If a tiny infant has a cough of any description, they should be tested for pertussis. This is true whether or not they are vaccinated. Do not wait to see if they develop the distinctive "whoop." Pertussis can only be effectively treated with antibiotics if it is identified early, when it just looks like a cold.
Seriously consider asking anyone with any kind of cough to keep their distance from your baby.
There are an alarming number of vaccinated people who are spreading pertussis around our communities because they think they're immune when they're not.....
Of course not, that would cost big pharma less money ;) I don't do the Dtap, my child went lifeless after being injected with it and couldn't be awoken for over 5 minutes... Dr. said he was 99% sure it was the pertussis component of the vax and not the D or the T... either way I am DONE with vaccines!
you can get a DT....... no pertussis, but I don't know about the other way around. My son had a reaction to his first pertussis and only got DT after that.
I'm pretty sure all vaccines come in singular form - just depends on if the Pediatrician orders it that way.
Nope, you cannot. Hopefully they will do it soon, though, because lots of moms are asking for it. It made me crazy that I had to give my son two other vaccines that I felt were unnecessary just to get him the one that I did feel was necessary. stupid drug companies!!!!!
as far as I have been told, you can only get them all together......but ask your doctor.
I think you can get any of them seperate.. but talk to you doc to see if they have it.. if not they might be able to let you know where to go.
