Vaseline seems to work just as good as the Aquafor. My sons rash got real bad and the Vaseline keeps it cleared up.
My son is 16 months old now and he has had a rash around his mouth for a couple of months now. Sometimes it's only a few red bumps, other times his whole chin and mouth are broken out. The Pediatrician said it's from drool (he is teething) and it doesn't seem to bother him. He doesn't itch it nor does it seem to cause him any discomfort. I'd still like to clear it up. Have any of you had a similar problem? If so, what did you do to clear it up. I'd like to add that I wipe his chin when ever I see the drool - not too sure how often his caregiver wipes him. Anything you can suggest I'd certainly be willing to try. Thanks!!
I want to thank all of you for your advice. I plan on trying your suggestions over the next few weeks to see which one works best for us. First I'll try cutting out the citrus and tomato based items to see if it might be an allergy. Then if that doesn't do the trick I'll try some of the other remedy's (one at a time - over the course of a few days each) to see if that helps. Thank you all again for your help and concern - it really means a lot to know that we have each other to lean on.

Your Ped. is right. You're doing it right by wiping whenever you see it. Only problem is you can't apply anything on because she would be eating it. Don't worry, teething won't last forever.
It will clear up on it's own. Your sons skin is very delicate at this age and anything you put on it could make it worse or cause problems with sensativity later on. It will pass before you know it.
My youngest has this problem. You can do several things. I have put lanolin on it at night before bed and most recently (when that quite working) I bought coconut oil (at a health food store) ,it had gotten really bad ,and that worked miracles! Good luck!
does he use a paci? My daughter would break out around her mouth and chin whenever she was using her paci alot (teething time). I always use Lubriderm sensitive lotion and it clears up in a few days.
YES!! We are just now having that problem with our 3 year old. What we ended up finding out what that anytime he ate any type of citrus or acidic food (tomatoes, oranges, strawberries, etc) he would breakout all around his mouth. Try eliminating any citrus fruits and any tomato based products from his diet and see if that helps. If it is that, you will see his mouth clear up in just about 2 days.
Hi - I had the same problem with my daughter...as long as it is not a food allergy....here are a few changes we made that made a world of difference:
1) we switched to Mam paci instead of NUK which trapped the sailva in there (esp at night)
2) i patted her mouth area a few times a day (during diaper chages) with tepic water and a soft cloth (cloth diaper works great) and pat dry the area - avoided baby wipes on the face (even the sensitive ones irritated her more) - used sensitive soap in tub (california baby)
3) thin coat of Aquaphor as a barrier protectant at night (ped recommended)
4) help with teething (hyland tablets) and frozen washcloths helped keep hands and other objects out of mouth.
good luck!
What are you wiping his mouth with? An anti-bacterial wipe or plain wash cloth with water?
The kids gonna drool while teething. It could also be food allergies.
The pediatrician sounds unconcerned. I never met one who is except for a guy in Boca - Gerald Elmore. He and his wife are holistic practitioners. Even a visit to the local health food store may shed some light on this. Most of the people who work there have had some medical training and know about food allergies and natural remedies.
OK, this is frozen wash cloth day (I have replied to a number of teething issues) I knew moms who froze bagels; but eventually the baby chokes on a food item when gnawing on it...a clean washcloth lightly dampened and placed in the freezer works well, then let the baby gnaw on it. He won't choke, and it really takes the pain of teething away.
Another suggestion, depending on age, is making fruit smoothies and making popsicles. My kids loved them. Again, the cold really relieves the teething pain. The rash issue seems to be your main concern; but if it doesn't seem to bother your baby, know that the new teeth really hurt and this could be a natural reaction to the experience. Hope this helps, dear. You'll live through it. So will your child.
Blessings, S.
