Period After Giving Birth

Sorry if this is to much info, but I don't know who else to ask other than a doctor, and I don't feel like going to see her if this is normal. I had a baby in June and have not had a period since. I was exclusively nursing for the first 3 months, but then since I have gong back to work it is only in the morning and evening. To be honest, I don' think there is much milk anymore, just a comfort/bonding thing at this point.

I have not had a period since. When I had my son (almost 8 years ago) I went on the Depo shot right away so this wasn't an issue. I have been getting an uncomfortable feeling the past few weeks. I thought it was my body kicking in to gear, but nothing has happened. Yesterday it got really bad, to the point of taking ibuprofen and a hot shower, but still nothing. Do any of you remember how long it took for things to begin regulating? I know that nursing can hold things off, but I really thought that since my milk is all but dried up that my periods would begin again.

What can I do next?

your fine because baby is still latching even if milk is low your body is still reading as feeding your normal. you will start with in 30 day after you stop completely n some woman take six months after to not only start but to also get regulated so your fine.

I nursed the first 2 for 6 months then went back to work. Did some pumping and supplemented with formula and nursed them when I was at home. I think it was 8 or 9 months after they were born before I got my period. With my 3rd I wasn't working so I nursed him until he was 2 and I think I got my period 7 months after he was born - so go figure. I think that like you, for a month or two before things were back to normal I felt like my hormones were beginning to cycle again.

Have you taken a pregnancy test? It's possible to get pregnant before you get your first period after giving birth. You should check that first if there's a chance. Otherwise, I would say it's pretty normal to go for a long time without your period. I didn't get mine until 6 months after my first and I can't remember how long after my second. But, if you're having discomfort, you should see your doctor to check things out and make sure you're ok.

its going to take you a while to get your body back, i would wait another month or so before you get ahold of your dr to make sure nothing is wrong

I exclusively breastfed for 6 months and then I continued to breastfeed with solids added in until my daughter was 13 months. I didnt get my period until exactly 28 days from the last time I breastfed my daughter. After that it was 31 days then 33, then 46 and then it I finally got pregnant again. I know my dates so well because we were trying from 11 months on. But I remember in between that 33 and 46 day period there was an entire week of hell. I never got a period, not even spotting but I had horrible pains all over, with period cramps, sore boobs, headaches, the works. I thought I was pregnant the entire time and peed on more sticks then I could count but they were all negative. Anyway, I think what you are experiencing is totally normal and the fact that you are still breastfeeding some is going to be a factor in when your body decides to have a period
Good Luck and congrats on the baby
