Pen on Wood Table

Does anyone have a good technique to use to get permanent pen out of a wooden kitchen table? I used Mr. Clean magic eraser and that took some of it out, but it is also taking the color/finish off the table. Gotta love the 2 year old artist who missed the paper.

BTW - it is a ballpoint black pen, and it looks like he dug it into the table.

What can I do next?

Toothpaste. I just got this tip online a couple months ago when our daughter took a Sharpie to our kitchen table. Just rub it in and it comes out completely without harming the finish of the table at all. I was pretty surprised it really worked.

Try spraying hairspray on it. Or using a bit of softscrub on your finger and working it out.

Anything you try, try on a the bottom first. Try an eraser. I have tried many things to get rid of marks on the tables and the marks have stayed and the color/finish has come off. I've end up having a small mark with a bigger discolored section around it. I now end up working on it over time with gentle cleaner that you would normally clean your table with and it will fade. If it is a real wood table Howard Restor A Finish works great to put some of the color back. It will be the first of many marks with a two year old artist. Six years ago I had the ABC's written, by my then 3 year old, on an $800 side table, I was so mad, now I think the table is priceless. Good Luck!
