Hello... my son has had a couple of accidents recently at night and I've discovered that his "water proof" matress pad isn't so water proof. His new matress smells of urine. Any ideas on how to clean it? It's a pillow top. Thanks for any advice.
Vinegar and water mix sprayed on it might help get the smell out too. Also, if you can, try putting the mattress out in the sunlight for a little bit.
After getting the smell out...... for my boys I have one big waterproof pad on the mattress and then we bought a small waterproof pad one we lay on top of that about where they tend to sleep. The small pad seems to hold up better through washing than the big full bed pad as ours leaked also. Now it is easier to clean the small pad anyway and it hasn't leaked to the big pad or the bed, but just in case, we are ready.
My daughter peed on my sofa twice. I used a product specifically used to get rid of urine odor and stains. It has some kind of special enzimes (whatever those are) anyway...I know there is one called urine gone. You may find that or something similar in the cleaning isle or perhaps the pet isle. I know I have seen stuff at the vet too. You may have to do it more than once. Let it dry completely. Good luck!
Steam clean it & get a different matterss pad.
if someone gives you a good idea I need it to my grandson has a small mattress at my house it is foam but he has had a couple of accidents and it to stinks i have tried febreze but it doesn't get rid of all of it so if you find out something that works better let me know thank you
Sometimes vinegar will do the trick, but if not, I have a product that really works. My sister had success with it for urine, and also chocolate milk that had dried on a mattress. It's called Bac-Out. It's great for using in the laundry as well. I use it for hubby's smelly work clothes. Here's a link to it. http://www.audreysallnaturalshoppe.com/store/WsDefault.as...

Rug Doctor has an "enzyme" that can be added to a shampooer and sprayed on directly that will eliminate these odors. But be sure to read the label carefully, as some enzyme cleaners are not exactly safe. Lowes also carries different brands. The best way to treat is to mix with water as per directions and dilute the area. The longer the area stays wet, the better it will work. So if he has someplace else to sleep until it is fully dry, that would be best. You could even get a $5 air mattress from Walmart (always good to have on-hand for kiddie sleepovers) or have an impromptu "campout" with a sleeping bag. :]

I've used a product called "Odo-Ban" from Sam's club. It works great on all types of smelly accidents. Also, after you clean the mattress, try to put it out in the sun and fresh air.
Peroxide and water, a 50/50 solution. This worked great for my pillow top mattress when one of our cats peed on our bed that had accidently got stuck in our bedroom overnight. I sprayed this solution on about 3-4 different times and the smell went away. Give it a try!
