Hello all,
I just found out that my 19-month-old daughter is 19 pounds. They are checking her for failure to thrive. They did bloodwork, which I will find out the results on Saturday and she is doing a sweat test on Tuesday. I am really freaked out! Meanwhile, they have told me to make sure she drinks 2 servings of Pedisure a day. It is $11 for 6 servings! Is there a generic version, a powder version or any cheaper way to buy it? Help me! I want the best for my little girl, but this is very expensive! It works out to over $50 a month!

What can I do next?

I too went though this with my son. Yes there is a generic brand...I know meijer carries it & I also think marsh & kroger do as well. My sons ped also suggested carnation breakfast in addition to the pediasure ...it is packed with calories. Try to give your child high calorie foods as well...this will hopefully increase her weight. But do not worry too much. Some kiddos just take a while to start their growth spurts. My son is 31/2 now and weighs only 29 lbs. He is healthy but just doesn't grow that much. If he hasn't made big growth jump at his 4 year appt then we have to see specialist. So don't think this is anything bc of you...its just how some kiddos are! :). By chance was your little one a preemie? My son was & that is the main cause of his lack of growth. But just keep in mind there is help out there...

Good luck!

Target and Walmart also carry generic brands. I think Walmart was the better price and variety. Our son is 3-1/2 and only 30 lbs. We found out recently that he has a slight allergy to milk so we had to take him off of the pediasure.

I was reading about a product called "Reliv for Now for Kids" and people who reviewed said it was awesome and seen changes pretty quickly however it seems the draw back is you have to order it on-line or through some sales rep. a brighter note on it though people said one can almost lasts a month.

I am thinking of trying it myself, so maybe you can google it and see what you think, it can't hurt to take a look.

My best friends little boy is also a tiny thing, and doesn't gain weight very good (even though he eats and eats and eats some more)

Her pediatrician has her giving him pediasure but also told her that the Carnation brand of instant breakfasts and some of their other products were find to give her son to help with weight gain.

Ask your doctor about that... I know you can usually find a lot of coupons for that stuff.
