We are relocating to Jacksonville Florida and in need of a new pediatrician. I am looking for someone who is not aggressive about the standard vaccination schedule. If not someone who is willing to allow me to decide which I would like to eliminate all together. For example, I don't see the need for an infant to have a Hep B vaccine when he will not be sharing needles with other in daycare. My Dr was very argumentative about why he should receive it and in the end agreed to "be flexible just this one time" I would like someone who will respect my decisions. I would apprecaite any recommendations you might have

What can I do next?

Hi D.,
This answer may be getting to you kind of late but here it is. I work in family practice and I do pediatric immunizations all day long. The real issue that you run in with as far as immunizations goes is with the schools. Really your decision should be to immunize or not. Period. If you plan to home school then the shot schedule or if you even choose to get the shots is up to you but understand that these shots are given at a specific time frame apart from the next dose for each kind of shot so that the child builds antibodies against disease and if you don't keep your child on schedule then the one who pays for it in the end is your child. On so many occasions I have had to give a poor child 5 and 6 shots in one sitting to catch them up for school as oppose to the 3 they would get each visit as an infant. Hope everything works out.

IT's not the doctor's you will have to worry about, but the schools. I am from Indiana and there, the vaccines were spaced out well, here, not so much. My kids have had all their vaccinations just not on Florida's schedule.
I can't help you with a dr since we're Navy, but I'm sure if you talked with the doctor or nurse before you decide it couldn't hurt.

I am using Dr Mosolf ( 3rd St, Jax Beach). He is pretty flexible and easy to discuss with . I had questions concerning the risks of autism related to vaccination, and he always took his time to answer. The best would be to give a call to his office and have a first talk with them to see their position on the topic.

Progressive Pediatrics

This is the only place I know of that is flexible like that in Jax. they are not easy to get into because of the way the practice medicine (holistic, and MD, slings, attachment parenting, and flexible depending on your wishes, works with you to make it a team effort)

But I can say they are 100% worth it!
