My previous question went unnoticed and i am too anxious to be quiet for some time.. so here it goes again:

Can anybody recommend a good family or pediatrician in Seattle area?

I need someone who is open to alternative treatments to try first instead of antibiotics, who does not push vaccines on the child and does not offend when you say no to vaccines and has good mannerism with the kids.

Will be moving to Seattle in a few weeks! thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Update: Fyi, my son is heavily vaccinated until 1 year of age and then onwards partial-vac. I am only against the heavy vaccination schedule (which also we followed in his first year unfortunately) and vaccinating for minor and rare illnesses. He indeed has had all booster shots of DTap.

Area local q's often go unanswered.

I know lots of peds in redmond/seattle... none of whom would fit your bill. Especially not with pertussis almost epidemic up here right now, and measles (HATE that illness) on the rise.

Just as an aside/ ETA per yours:

Seattle is an INCREDIBLY liberal town. You will have absolutely no problem finding chiropractors, naturopaths, osteopaths, and acupuncture... and most docs here can refer you to some good ones.

As far as standard care, though

is a really, really good ped group. It was originally started by top docs who started having families and only wanted to work 3 days a week and spend the other 4 with their young children at home. The practice has grown a LOT in the past 10 years. Aside from a really high standard of care, they also have half a dozen offices, weekend hours (both Sat & Sun... but only in specific locations that anyone from any office can go to for sick child appts), and they save a slot in the morning and evening for kids who get sick overnight or during the day. It's a really great group. Most of their docs have rights at Children's Hospital, and Evergreen (Children's overflow hospital on the Eastside). Similarly, there are Children's Hosp. Urgent care clinics on the Eastside as well.

AVOID GroupDeath (GroupHealth) if at all possible. The best hospital for children is Children's Hospital (Sandpoint, on the other side of the lake from you), and for adults (in order from closest to you outward) Evergreen, Overlake (you won't like them, heck even most med professionals don't like them... they buy the priciest gizmos and then have to pay for them, so they're all about intervention, but they DO have great gizmos) UW (teaching hospital), Swedish, & Harborview (our county hospital & trauma center).

If by any chance you're Microsofting it... no worries ... their HR will probably hook you up with local providers (they're their own little socialist nation over there:) in all fields (medicine, massage, chiropractic, osteopaths, yoga for health, nutrition, etc.)

Ditto what Riley said. Any pediatrician who is not an idiot/charlatan/unlicensed cretin will strongly encourage (though maybe not browbeat) you to get _at a minimum_ the necessary Dtap vaccines. We are in the midst of a major outbreak of pertussis around these parts. I suggest you read the seattlemamadoc blog for good _medical_ advice regarding vaccinations. Frankly, she'd make a great pediatrician (if she's accepting new patients).

Oh. Here is a local article for you to consider, as well.

That said, there are many excellent doctors/pediatricians in the Seattle area. Once you know where you'll be living, you should be able to find a convenient one. But a medical doctor is not likely to offer you herbs, poultices, leeching, eye of newt, etc. for treating broken legs, whooping cough, pink eye, pneumonia, etc.

It sounds like you might not really want a pediatrician/med doctor. If you don't want a medical doctor, look into Bastyr University. Their main campus is at St. Edwards State Park (on the Eastside, no less) and they teach naturopathic medicine. They should be able to help you find a convenient ND.

I'm sorry to be so harsh. I certainly don't want to make you even more anxious about your move. You will certainly find like-minded individuals in the area. There are lots of them. I just get a bit touchy when I see the no-vax crowd coming into my community and putting the health of my children, my children's friends and siblings, my friends' children, and my community as a whole at risk.

We have had good experiences with West Seattle Swedish Pediatric Clinic and also with the Ballard Swedish Family Physicians. Both are your regular Pediatric/Family docs.
We do vaccinate but do not adhere to the schedule and we have forgone some vaccines that are more for convenience that protection from a truly potentially serious infection. I have never had a ped question my judgement or choices delaying/spacing out/declining some vaccines.

We have seen several docs at both clinics and they were also fine with "wait and see" before prescribing ABX for things like ear infections.

Moreover they have always been very respectful of our choices and not pushy or condescending with me.

Seattle also has a plethora of ND's, many of which provide routine pediatric care.

Welcome!

Really will depend on which part of Seattle you're in. You want someone close to home, not driving to Seattle from Redmond or going to west Seattle from north Seattle, etc. pediatric associates has a few different offices and are good.
