They make the MMR in separate shots, you may have to pay out of pocket for it.
I personally would find a new ped, I think it is rude to turn anyone away.

Lots of kids react to the chicken pox vaccine. It was one of the reasons I chose not to let my daughter have it and let her get chicken pox. But you really should let her have the MMR. It's been around MUCH longer than the chicken pox one and she shouldn't have any problems with it. My niece lives in France, and they don't do vaccinations until after a year and she got measles at 9 months old and almost died. Your better off with a small reaction believe me.

There unfortunately is no separate vaccines for the MMR anymore. My mother had to look into that in the last 6 months.

As for your Ped, she is not following the AMA's recommendation to tell the parent's that they should vaccinate and then continue to treat them even if they do not want to.

I found this website when I googled "get MMR shots separately"

Also - you might be better off to switch to a general practitioner than a pediatrician for your daughter. Since she's 2 you are A-OK to do that. If you go to a DO instead of an MD they are usually on board with alternative treatments more so and might be ok if you choose not to vaccinate. Just a thought.

Good Luck

See a naturopath instead. They take insurance, and they don't push vaccines on you.

I can't imagine letting my kids go unprotected from preventable, and possibly fatal illnesses but here's my thoughts on the pediatrician issue.

They have values and morals just like everyone else. They have the right to choose who they see and don't see.

You are the only one who can find a new pediatrician, call your provider and get the list of the pediatricians that they have a contract with then call each and every one of them. They are the only ones who can give you that particular list and the docs office is the only one who can say their doc is okay with not vaccinating.

Why is she not getting MMR? Your reasoning is not sound.

Just because she reacted to a completely unrelated live virus does not mean that she'll react to the MMR.

What she likely reacted to was the adjuvant. Adjuvants cause the immune response. Find out what the adjuvant was in the varicella (chicken pox vaccine). Have her tested for allergy and see if that is what caused it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immunologic_adjuvant

ETA: Okay, scratch that. MMR and varicella have no adjuvants. But that does not mean she ought not be vaccinated. Her severe reaction to that small varicella virus indicates that exposure to the illness could have been even worse. Talk to the pediatrician about it. I have a terrible reaction to Typhoid vaccine, but no reaction at all to many others. One does not have anything to do with the other.

I've never heard of a doctor turning a child away due to non-vaccination. We also slowed down the series of shots, and did MMR seperate (as three shots) at age 4. Our pedi had no issues with that.

Good luck finding the right doctor!
