sounds like a meatal stenosis - my son had it, we found it when he was about 3.5 years old, he had a minute surgery to correct it, it's really no biggie. good luck and he'll do just fine!
My six year old son just had his yearly check up and while being checked his pediatrician noticed that the "hole" in his peepee was pretty small and that it looked like a "dot" instead of "fish lips" which is the norm. She asked me several questions i.e. does he squirt instead of a flow, does he have to push to do peepee, does it hurt and/or tingle, etc... I told her honestly I do not watch do peepee, but I now remember every so often he would complain that it hurt or tingle and I just thought it was him not wiping properly, or leaving soap, etc... but I guess it was a sign. So she has referred me to a pediatric urologist who will evaulate him and of course I now am watching out for the signs the pediatrician mentioned. I was told that there is not need to rush or that it's an emergency but it could worsen to the point where he hole will close. Has anyone had their son diagnoses with this or been through this, I am a bit worried being that he is so young but I rather take care of this sooner than later. Thanks.

Hi K.,
I feel that doctors are great at over prescribing, over medicating and over diagnosing their patients just to pay their bills. I can't help but think that everybody is different. I suggest you do some research on what the ped is telling you and to educate yourself prior to visiting the urologist. I tend to think that if your son isn't complaining or in pain while urinating that it's really not that big of a deal. However, as you educate yourself about this you can follow your intuition and make an informed decision.
Good luck,
J.
Dear K.,
Been then done that. TRULY no need to worry it is pretty much a routine procedure. My son is a young adult man now and all is well.

i work for a urologist in cape coral. (we have offices all through-out lee county) we have 2 pediatric urologists here. and this "condition" is quite common. it can even happen to older men AND women. what we do is dilate his urethra. very very very common. i would say depending on how bad it is, or the temperment of your son, thats when we would determine if we can just do it in the office. or schedule a "procedure". good luck! and PM me if you have any questions.~ !
My oldest had "Hypospadia" where the "hole" was off center and had to be surgically repaired. Best get it done sooner than later. Don't know where you live; but check into pediatric hospitals. There is one in Miami (Coral Gables) that has a fabulous reputation. Your pediatrician should be able to recommend a good surgeon.
I know it's stressful; but be diligent about this and in time you will have your research done and someone to hold your hand during the procedure
Blessings, S.
