Hello. My son fell a broke one of his teeth. We have an appointment to see a specialist. Has anyone been through this before? He is only 2 and I don't want him to have a bad experience and be scared to go to the dentist in the future. Thanks for any info.

What can I do next?

Kids Care Dental in Plantation and an office in Weston. You must see Dr. Nigel Grandison. I went through this with my son also, and went through 3 pediatric dentists before finding Dr. Grandison. He's awesome!

Hi G.~ Well unfortunately I have been through this with both of my kids. My daughter was a little over 1 when my mothers dogs bumped into her and she fell and chipped her front tooth on her tile floor. We took her to the pediatrician and she said as long as she is eating and drinking ok it should be fine. However her tooth started turning grey so we took her to the dentist, who advised us to leave it alone until she was a little older and then have it pulled. We waited until the begining of kindergarten when her other teeth started getting loose. We took her back to the dentist to have it pulled and were told that since the baby tooth was damaged it could take up to a year for the permanent tooth to come in. It only took a week and the tooth was already coming down. She loved the dentist because it was geared only for children. They had video games and a huge mouth for the kids to brush the teeth, a space ship was in the waiting room for them to play also. They also have a no parent rule in the back. This made me very nervous, however she did much better by not having me in there with her. My son was running in the house and tripped. He fell and chipped his TWO front teeth. ugh! I thought not again. His teeth actually never turned grey, so we were really lucky with him. Most of the time if the tooth isn't bothering the child, the dentist will say to leave it alone. It really is more common than most people think. It is something you will learn to accept as part of his personality and what makes him a little unique :) Remember it is only a baby tooth and it will fall out eventually!! Hope this helps some and good luck with everything!!!

My husband is a pediatric dentist in Plantation, Dr. Jason Hirsch###-###-####. He only specializes in children. Definately take him to the dentist to have it checked. You want to make sure the gum and root of the tooth is ok. Hope this helps!

The same thing happened to my youngest when he was 18 months old. Pediatric dentists are trained to work with toddlers. He got to hold a teddy bear, and he was fine. You might talk to the receptionist before you go so you will know what to expect.

Hi G., my 1 1/2 yr old just did the same! We went to Dr. Roseff, Main Street Pediatric Dentistry on Toney Penna Drive. He was great with her. He even called that night to see how she was doing, and his staff called after the weekend to see how she did!

Is the nerve exposed? Pink dot on the tooth? If it is, they may have to do kind of a baby root canal. Ours was only a pinpoint exposure, so he put meds on the nerve causing it to retract, and calcium will grow over it. Then he put a crown on her tooth.

Our princess had an official crown!

You should for sure take him to the dentist to make sure it didn't do any damage inside the gums, but most specialist see this stuff all the time. And if your really concerned you should sign up for s consultation before the actuall app. so your son can meet him so it is not a total stranger, plus when he is there the dentist can over what they are going to do and look at other people doing it. It might make it less scary. I had to take my daughter when she was one and did surprisingly well. I wouldn't be worried, they told me most of the time, there is no permenant tooth in the gums yet to get damaged and the teeth they have now are going to fall out anyway, so Good Luck!

Hi G.,

My son, a little superman, lost both front teeth at same age.
They actually became loose, dark and fell a few weeks later.
The dentist made a bridge of false teeth to keep the space for the coming teeth.
I was lucky, the dentist was a great woman.
He had a lot of fun scaring other kids with these new ones, it was expensive, but his new teeth are beautiful.

I believe that dentists have to be somewhat spychologists, they have a charm for kids or they don't.
Choose well.
Making the accident into a normal affair works best for me.
Children survive may things, you still have a long way to go.

yes...the same thing happened to my son when he was a baby. The tooth turned dark, but they didn't do anything because it's a baby tooth. A good pediatric dentist has tricks to not scare the kids. It's much different now than when we were little!

Hi G., I am really sorry to hear about what happened to your son. I know that going to a dentist of any kind is sort of scary for any child. When my daughter was one year old, I took her to a pediatric dentist in South Miami that is EXCELLENT! He was actually my dentist when I was a child and he is still as awesome as I remember. The reason I took her to the dentist is that she did not have teeth until she was about 14 months old. He made her (and me) feel very at ease. His name is Dr. Webman and his telephone # ###-###-####. I hope this works out for you. Hope everything is fine with your son asap! J.
