Paying an Overnight Sitter

Our 22 month old will be spending the night with his sitter - from noon Saturday to 10 am Sunday. What should I pay for that time? I will provide all food/diapers, etc. He falls asleep around 8pm and usually wakes up around 6:30am. I was thinking about $180?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Lol! Well, I just calculated at $10/hr for the time he is awake and then about $5/hr for when he sleeps. Plus, she will be picking him up so gas money!

Hi S.:

I think that is very generous of you and will ensure that she'll likely do the job again. People sometimes forget that on overnight jobs, the caregiver really doesn't get very good sleep with young children-- we are always keeping an ear out for them!

Dam*n, I'm going to become an overnight sitter. I'd do it for $100. Sounds like plenty to me!

I think you are being more than generous and likely to insure that the babysitter is well worth it.

Even before I had my own children, I had little ones overnight when parents went out of town or mommies went into labor with new babies. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but I didn't get much rest. It was all about being alert "just in case" of anything.

Sometimes, you really do get what you pay for.
You're awesome!!

Best wishes.

Sounds perfect. The overnight time does count, for sure. We had an overnight sitter and expected nothing from our normally great-sleeping kids. However, our then six-year-old son got confused at her house and didn't make it to the bathroom in time in the middle of the night. So, she was up cleaning carpets at midnight. You have to factor in those possibilities. Sounds like you're going to pay her just right.

I would say that is too much imo. I wouldn't go more than $100.

If when you get there and find out for some reason it didn't go as smoothly as planned then I would chip in some more for the extra work.

I would think, that the Babysitter, has her own rates, which she then tells the Client.

Overnight Sitters, usually get paid more versus daytime Sitters.
At least in my State that is. AND overnight Sitters, the ones that I know of... do NOT pick up or drop the child off themselves. The parents... do that. They do not "transport" the child, unless they have a car seat themselves and a contract, that authorizes transport of the child etc.

It doesn't matter if the child is sleeping, the Sitter, is STILL ON the clock and caring for the child and their safety etc. No matter what the scenario is. And they don't often get to sleep, themselves.

i would pay waking hours what you normally pay her, and then 3/4 of that for sleeping hours, then like 20 bucks in gas.
